WrestleMania 33, and a presumed match with former best friend Kevin Owens, looks like a good place to end or pause the story of Chris Jericho’s latest run in pro wrestling, and rumors have long suggested he’d be leaving WWE “shortly after” Mania. Based on advertisements from venues and the company itself, however, it looks like “shortly” means at least “another month”.
Y2J definitely has festival dates with his band Fozzy coming up in May, but it looks like he’ll be sticking around WWE until we get pretty close to those performances. The current United States champ is listed as a “Featured Superstar” for every Monday night in April - including the Payback pay-per-view (PPV) in San Jose on the 30th.
The Payback date is especially interesting as Fozzy had been mentioned as playing Jacksonville, Florida’s “Welcome to Rockville” festival, but the event website doesn’t currently list them as part of the April 29 - 30 line-up.
Also interesting is a mention from Wrestling Inc. that Jericho will return to WWE following Fozzy’s June dates in the United Kingdom. With a new album on the way, as well as his fourth book due out in August, pro wrestling in 2017 had been looking like it would be without the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla, at least as a steady on-screen presence. If that story is correct, however, we Jericholics may only have to handle a short break.
We’ll find out more about that later, but in the meantime, it looks like we have a little bit longer before we have to think about saying goodbye.
Like it? And how does this effect your fantasy booking for Fastlane and Mania?
