What’s up with SmackDown Women’s champ Naomi and her injury?

UPDATE: Sadly, we now know more. Click here for the latest.

It’s only been nine days, but one of last week’s big WWE title changes has already drifted off the radar. And that despite there being a lot of uncertainty about the champ’s status.

While WWE and the wrestling web have focused on who will face Bray Wyatt for the World title at WrestleMania or how Raw will get their Women’s belt back around Charlotte Flair’s waist, there haven’t been that many updates on SmackDown Women’s champion Naomi.

Last Tuesday, just days after beating Alexa Bliss for the championship at Elimination Chamber, Naomi revealed she was diagnosed with an injury. She vowed to carry the title into her hometown Orlando, this year’s Mania host. Bliss issued an ultimatum, however, demanding a rematch this week.

There was never any official backing from SmackDown management for Alexa’s “or else”, and the preview for the Feb. 21 episode on WWE.com asks what Bliss might do if Naomi can’t wrestle tonight, so it doesn’t look like they’re on the verge of forcing the champ to relinquish her strap.

Probably they’re buying time. Wrestling Inc noted that Naomi was held off this past weekend’s house shows, meaning she hasn’t wrestled since the Feb. 12 pay-per-view (PPV) where she was hurt.

The good news is they don’t seem to want to strip her of the championship. Unfortunately, they also don’t yet seem to have ruled out that they might have to.

We’ll find out something when SmackDown comes our way from Ontario, California tonight... but it might just be more stalling.
