Turns out that while we found out about his being named to the WWE Hall of Fame just earlier today, Diamond Dallas Page has known since October of last year.
That’s what the DDP Yoga founder told Rolling Stone and friend-of-the-site Kenny Herzog in an exclusive interview posted today which broke the news about his joining Kurt Angle, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express & Teddy Long in the class of 2017.
Page is a performer and a man whose reputation is largely built on his relationships with others in the business, both folks who’ve helped him and those he’s helped. Which is probably why, in addition to the usual questions about who will induct him at the pre-WrestleMania ceremony, a lot of fans are asking who’ll be with DDP on Friday, March 31st in Orlando.
In talking to Herzog about an accomplishment he says “surpasses everything” he did in the business and that “absolutely” legitimizes the legacy of WCW, Page shared his answer:
My ex-wife, Kimberly, who went on this whole ride with me, her and her husband are coming in. My wife and I went to their wedding, and they went to our wedding. I don't know many people who do that, but we do, so I'm really happy she's gonna be there. My daughters are gonna be there. And without Jake, there's no three-time World Champion and Hall of Famer. Same thing with Scott. Scott was very pivotal in my career, and mine with his.
In terms of who can’t be there with him... we learned what Dusty Rhodes meant to DDP shortly after Dusty’s passing in 2015. It sounds like the American Dream will definitely be at the Hall of Fame ceremony in spirit, too:
And the guy who isn't there is the guy who would be inducting me, which is Dusty Rhodes. I always tell everybody: Without Dusty Rhodes, there is no Diamond Dallas Page.
I remember Dusty Rhodes saying to me, "In our business, the things that are really real are your first world title and the Hall of Fame." I would love for him to be here. I get choked up just thinking about it.
Good stuff. Check out the whole interview here.
Now, there’s one thing he doesn’t specifically answer, however. So... who do you think will induct DDP?
