US Championship Triple Threat Match
Baron Corbin vs. Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
Two months ago at Hell in a Cell, Baron Corbin won the United States Championship by defeating AJ Styles and Tye Dillinger in a triple threat match. Since then, Corbin defeated AJ Styles in a championship rematch, defeated the Intercontinental Champion (the Miz) at Survivor Series in a battle for brand supremacy, and eventually got the better of Sin Cara after a series of matches. Things have been going pretty well for the champ.
Bobby Roode has been on the main roster for over three months, and he spent most of that time embroiled in a feud with Dolph Ziggler. Roode capped that off with a glorious victory over Ziggler in a 2-out-of-3 falls match on Halloween, leaving Dolph to question his future in pro wrestling and off television for most of November, while Roode set his sights on championship gold.
Roode approached Corbin backstage on the November 28 episode of SmackDown Live. The Glorious One claimed that Corbin was scared of him and he challenged the Lone Wolf to a US Championship match. Corbin had no interest in defending his title and he called Roode delirious.
Then a few days later there was a random video on WWE.com with Byron Saxton announcing there would be a triple threat match at Clash of Champions for the US Championship between Corbin, Roode, and Ziggler. It's still a mystery trying to figure out why Ziggler was added to the mix after being off television for most of November while rethinking his career. Hopefully Breezango can crack that case one day.
Since that announcement, Dolph Ziggler made his mark by interrupting a match between Roode and Corbin, leaving both men flat on their backs.
Bobby Roode did the same exact thing the following week, interrupting a match between Ziggler and Corbin and leaving both men flat on their backs.
With these two recent attacks in mind, does that mean it’s Corbin's turn to stand tall at Clash of Champions?
