The holiday season is not favoring the blue brand.
After experiencing its first drops in a month last week, SmackDown saw both viewership and ratings dip again on Dec. 12. The decline wasn’t steep - just an approximately 9,000 person drop in audience to 2,481,000, with share of 18-49 year olds falling to .71 from last Tuesday’s .76 - but its still trending in the opposite direction from how WWE would like it too, especially with a Network special on the docket for Sunday.
A special Senate election in Alabama that folks on both sides of the aisle were glued to didn’t help. Anderson Cooper and CNN ruled the night in ratings and viewers, along with the usual Fox News and MSNBC talk shows, and History’s Curse of Oak Island.
If there’s good news for Team Blue, it’s not good for the WWE overall. Even with the audience size drop, SmackDown remained close to Raw’s viewership. But they don’t want the Monday night flagship pulling in 2.68 million, so...
