In an interesting new interview with Metro UK, Braun Strowman discusses his rise within WWE over the past couple of years. One big, but not terribly surprising, takeaway is confirmation that Vince McMahon is enamored with Braun’s “larger than life” presence and has taken Strowman on as a personal project.
A discussion point which makes sense when you consider the chemistry they have as performers but is still sure to generate some discussion is how much trust and respect The Monster Among Men has for his on-screen rival Roman Reigns. Because, well, it’s Roman Reigns...
Answering a question about who’s helped him the most in his WWE career, Braun replied, “If I had to pick who I’ve learnt the most from, it’d be Big Show and Roman Reigns.” He’d go on to discuss The Big Dog in greater depth:
“I fully trust Roman, he’s never once steered me astray or suggested anything stupid for me to do that would make himself look better. He’s a team player, he’s here to make the product better. A lot of guys get caught up in what everyone thinks about them instead of what everyone thinks about the match.
Roman has been a big help in steering me the right way, and when I do something that isn’t good, he’s right there to let me know that I did something that sucks.”
It’s an answer which fits WWE’s oft-stated mantra that the characters are the characters and fans can choose to cheer or boo them. Critics usually point to that position being built to explain the boos Reigns receives from some audience, however. If Strowman’s shooting straight, Roman may be guiding the roster to embracing that philosophy, too.
Braun’s words also back up things we’ve heard about and from Reigns, too... that he’s the locker room leader now, and that he prides himself on being one of the best workers - not just in WWE, but in the business.
