Whether it’s on Raw, Total Divas, pay-per-view (PPV), social media or working with MTV and ESPN, The Miz has been on fire for a long time now. So it was met with some (but not total - he was facing The Big Dog) surprise that he was booked to drop his Intercontinental title to Roman Reigns in the main event last night (Nov. 20).
A report from PWInsider may help you feel better about the decision - or at least help it make more sense. Losing the championship, and taking a dark match beatdown from The Shield, was a write-off for The A-Lister, who will miss television for a while filming The Marine 6.
This will be Miz’s fourth outing as Force Recon vet Jake Carter. According to Insider’s report, there’s no set timetable for how long he’ll be gone... which is a little odd, since movies typically have shooting schedules. But this may also free him up to do some promotion for his gig over the next eight weeks as host of the new season of The Challenge, and maybe assist Maryse in getting the house ready for the arrival of their daughter in 2018.
It doesn’t seem to be tied to that blessed event. The couple hasn’t talked up a due date, but it’s probably still far enough out that any time off now wouldn’t overlap with paternity leave - even if that was something Vince McMahon was offering.
Figure The Awesome One will be back around the start of the new year at the latest to build toward Royal Rumble and get on the Road to WrestleMania. Until then, we’ll just have to rely on Roman’s IC title open challenge to make Monday nights “Must See” for a while.
