WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR NOV. 21
I'm rolling thunder, pouring rain; I'm coming on like a hurricane, my lightning's flashing across the sky. You're only young but you're gonna die. I won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives, nobody's putting up a fight. I got my bell, I'm gonna liveblog this here pro wrestling show, folks.
The show opens with a recap of the men's Survivor Series Elimination Match from Sunday.
Live in the arena, Shane McMahon makes his entrance. He talks about how Team Blue came up just short at Survivor Series, and even though his sister will try to spin it anyway she can, SmackDown proved that they, even in defeat, are THE show in WWE. He's proud of the entire SmackDown roster, who came with intensity, grit, and determination every night.
They bleed blue every night with pride for all of us, except for two individuals that he's asking to come out here right now, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. They oblige and come right out, happy as ever. Owens begins, asking what they get, death-defying Superman Shane or drunk with power Commissioner Shane? He feels for him, because it's gotta be hard coming out here every week with yet another excuse as to why he's failed.
Sami agrees, saying it has to be exhausting before asking if coming up with the excuses or manning up and apologizing is harder. Kev says that's a really good question and says if he were McMahon, he'd be on his hands and knees apologizing for leaving them out of Survivor Series. Unlike New Day, they would have beaten the Shield? Two on five, they would have beaten Team Raw.
And either of them could or would beat Brock Lesnar. So why not skip the pleasantries and be a man and apologize? Shane says they're talking to the commissioner tonight and why not shut up for the first time in their lives? The two of them have no respect for anyone in WWE, for him, or for anyone here tonight. (Zayn agrees with all of that.)
McMahon says that makes what he has to say next very easy. He has two words for 'em, and KO says he can't fire them because they're too valuable to the show. Everybody in the locker room looks up to them and every single person in this industry respects them. Zayn says he'd be a damn fool to do anything to two future Hall of Famers, and Owens continues saying there's not one single person in the building that doesn't think they're the top two superstars in WWE.
Shane calls them delusional and asks if they have any idea how delusional they are to think they're the top two superstars in WWE or if they realize that the locker room hates their guts. He calls them the most self-absorbed megalomaniacs to ever step foot in WWE and he asks them to come closer and gives 'em the big McMahon wind-up, "YOU'RE--"
Enter Daniel Bryan. He says Shane has every right to fire them, but before he does he should put his personal feelings aside. This gets Sami ranting and Bryan tells him to shut up, and he moots a better temporary solution to voiding their contracts. Everybody hates their guts, sure, and Randy Orton had to be sent home because he said he wouldn't be responsible for what he might do if he saw them.
New Day are furious, too, and so they have a match against the New Day to prove that they were right when they said they could be anyone on any night. Sami complains about it being a handicap and Bryan tells him to shut up again, saying he wasn't done, and it'll be a lumberjack match!
Commentary hypes up our SmackDown Women's Championship rematch as well as an appearance from AJ Styles later tonight before cutting to Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin and the Usos walking backstage ahead of a singles match between Jey Uso and Shelton to send us to break.
Back from commercial we get the traditional still picture recap of Survivor Series.
Jey Uso vs. Shelton Benjamin
Circling, collar and elbow, Benjamin backs Uso into the corner and breaks clean. Back to the lockup, Jey breaks away, big right hand palm strikes and Shelton grabs a side headlock. Shoot off, knock the tag champ down, off the ropes and Uso has a back elbow for him that staggers him into the corner. Charging in, up and over to the apron, another right and Benjamin knocks him to the floor with a knee lift to the face that sends us to break!
Back from commercial, Shelton's in firm control with a rear chinlock as Jey fights to one knee and to his feet. Body blows, uppercut, another, Benjamin is staggered but able to fire a knee in return, back suplex, lands on his feet, mule kick and a slicing right, Uso ducks a lariat and hits the Samoan drop! Running hip attack, shades of his father and Shelton rolls outside for a respite.
Lining it up, off the ropes... and Gable blocks the dive. Jimmy pulls him from the apron and slaps him but Chad puts him into the barricade! Shelton thinks fast, schoolboy pin, only two! Jey comes right back at him with a superkick... NOPE! Headed up top, nobody home on the splash...
Shelton Benjamin wins by pinfall with Paydirt.
Backstage, Owens and Zayn are telling someone they'll come for him eventually and asking if they have a friend. It's Baron Corbin and he asks what's in it for him. They say it's the principle of the thing, and Corbin doesn't buy it, telling them to find somebody more weak-minded. Kev says it's worth a try and they roll up on Bobby Roode.
They ask if he wants to be somebody or just one of Shane McMahon's pawns? They pitch him on being different, like they are, and he unloads on them, calling them out of their minds and pointing out that he was in the match they ruined on Sunday. Not only did they ruin it for him, but for the entire SmackDown locker room. He'll see them out there, and he owes them both a receipt.
We get a little hype for the Bludgeon Brothers debut later tonight and go to break.
Back from commercial, Naomi is getting her makeup touched up.
She says she's bummed they didn't win at Survivor Series, but it felt good to see Charlotte Flair beat Alexa Bliss. RUBY RIOT SHOWS UP NEXT TO HER AND SHE WANTS TO INTRODUCE HER FRIENDS LIV MORGAN AND SARAH LOGAN! THEY JUST CAME HERE TO SAY-- A BEATDOWN ENSUES! They put Naomi into road cases and keep stomping when Becky Lynch attacks from behind and they give her the same treatment!
Over the table and into the wall! Liv throws the table at her like she's tiny New Jersey Genichiro Tenryu! THEY TRAP HER IN A DOOR AND SLAM IT ON HER A FEW TIMES! Referee Dan Engler shows up to call for a doctor and they walk off, the damage done.
Shane McMahon is backstage talking with Daniel Bryan about what a great idea he had for Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, talking about how he expects Bryan is going to fire them after they get the crap kicked out of them by everybody. In fact, he's just gonna go back to the hotel and watch everything unfold from there.
Hype Bros make their entrance, and they'll wrestle the Bludgeon Brothers after the break.
Back from commercial in time for the Bludgeon Brothers to make their entrance.
Bludgeon Brothers (Erick Rowan & Luke Harper) vs. Hype Bros (Mojo Rawley & Zack Ryder)
Rowan and Rawley to start, big man with a boot to the gut and a freight train shoulder block before knocking Ryder to the floor, where Harper runs over him with a big boot and throws him into the steel steps! Mojo alone in the corner, they stalk but he's ready to fight, throwing forearms, trying a crossbody and getting slammed for his trouble and Erick tags Luke in.
Harper slaps him in the face and whips him into Rawley before clobbering him with that beautiful falling boot of his. Tag made, they hoist him up...
Bludgeon Brothers win by pinfall with a double crucifix powerbomb on Mojo Rawley.
Backstage, Natalya is interviewed about the changing landscape of the women's division, and she says the only change that matters is when she beats Charlotte Flair for the title. She's running high off the biggest week of her career, and she'll give her credit for that, seeing as it's almost impossible to beat her. Ric Flair coming out and blubbering was disgusting, and she beat Alexa Bliss, who her cat 2Pawz could also beat.
Flair thinks she's Wonder Woman, and Nattie wonders which woman is gonna knock her off her perch and give Ric something to really cry about. She claims she'll be champion forever to close the interview out.
AJ Styles will call Jinder Mahal out after the break.
Back from commercial we get a recap of Styles/Lesnar.
Live in the arena, AJ Styles makes his entrance, a little worse for wear for the war he and Brock put each other through.
He gets on the mic and lets the crowd chant for a minute before saying he wishes he could be out here celebrating after slaying the Beast, but it didn't go down how he wanted. Not because he didn't try-- he hit him with every trick in the book, but Brock is every bit the Beast you think he is. Here's the crazy thing, though-- phone calls, texts, tweets, after the match? They all said "Congratulations, AJ Styles, you went one-on-one with the Beast and held your own."
Even Paul Heyman respected his efforts, but here's the thing-- this is WWE and you don't get trophies for second place. But after his match at Survivor Series, he wasn't the one limping to the back, so if you ever want to have a rematch, remember this-- in Rocky II, he wins. Onto other matters, Jinder Mahal said he was gonna take the title away from him on SmackDown?
Alright, Jinder, this is his title, he's here right now, come and take it. Mahal appears on the tron and says he'd love to but he's busy watching the Brock match over and over on the WWE Network. Two weeks ago Styles took advantage of him, and had he faced Lesnar, he'd be standing there hailed as the Beastmaster? AJ points out how stupid that sounds and says he seems well-rested, he didn't do anything at Survivor Series.
Jinder says he'll take his rematch at his time, when he wants, and he's the man that had 1.3 billion people of the great nation of India looking up to the Modern-Day Maharaja. He calls Styles a disrespect and says they will clash, in a place more deserving than Texas. He'll be invoking his rematch clause at Clash of Champions! Jinder laughs and the Singh Brothers blindside AJ!
He manages to turn the beating around on them, throwing Sunil to the floor and cracking Samir across the domepiece with the Pele kick before setting him up... STYLES CLASH!
Owens and Zayn are walking backstage looking for help when they roll up on Rusev and Aiden English in the locker room. Aiden is holding a private concert for the Bulgarian Brute and the Canadians applaud his singing. Sami says everybody else is getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, but they don't buy into that crap and would much rather celebrate Rusev Day!
Owens says they get each other and that what they did at Survivor Series was about teaching Shane a lesson about not overlooking his strongest assets. Like how Rusev's match to qualify for the team was canceled and John Cena made the team without lifting a finger. And who doesn't understand them? New Day. Sami says that New Day are jealous that Rusev Day is more popular that New Day.
They ask that they keep that in mind tonight and take their leave.
Commentary informs us our SmackDown Women's Championship match will be after the break.
Back from commercial we get the Usos doing a WWE Shop commercial in the way only they can.
Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Natalya (WWE SmackDown Women's Championship)
Natalya right in, side headlock takeover, kick to the midsection, throwing punches, off the ropes and Flair wipes her out with a back elbow. Firing chops but Nattie gets the discus lariat off, thinking about the Sharpshooter but Charlotte kicks her away. Face-first into the turnbuckles and Neidhart poses to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Natalya is on the offensive but Flair passes her into the turnbuckles and unleashes the fury! Mounted punches, Neidhart counters... SIT-OUT POWERBOMB! NO GOOD! Locking the Sharpshooter on in the middle of the ring but Charlotte crawls and gets the ropes! Right hands follow as referee Mike Chioda warns her off and Charlotte is able to get the STO backbreaker / reverse STO combo off and put Nattie into the turnbuckles!
Climbing up top, moonsault... the knees were up! Discus lariat countered into a spear but Neidhart has the wits to roll herself outside! Riot, Logan, and Morgan come out of the crowd and go on the offensive...
Natalya wins by disqualification.
They put her into the barricade and the ringpost hard and Ruby knocks her out with a basement superkick! The NXT women surround Charlotte and Flair does her damnedest fighting them out but gets caught by That Damned Numbers Game. They draw her up and Sarah puts a boot through her midsection, Liv hits a modified Codebreaker, and Riot finishes with the short-arm gamengiri!
On that note, we go to break.
Back from commercial we get a recap of what we just saw.
Daniel Bryan is walking backstage when he rolls into an interview. He says what just happened is an interesting situation but he doesn't have a comment. Owens and Zayn show up and KO says they know they're getting ripped limb from limb tonight, and Sami reminds him how valuable they are and says firing them will be the biggest mistake he's ever made.
Bryan wishes them luck and takes his leave.
The lumberjacks make their entrances as we go to break.
Back from commercial we get another trademark still picture recap of Survivor Series.
Commentary then informs us that AJ Styles will wrestle the Singh Brothers in a handicap match next week. Plus the return of the Fashion Files!
Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston) (Lumberjack Match)
E and Owens to start, Big throws Owens aside and swivels his hips only to get caught in a side headlock. Shoot off, shoulder block, kick to the gut, back to the headlock, shoot off and a back elbow lays KO out for a quick cover. Tag to Kingston, double stomp to the arm, arm wringer, Owens with a kick to the gut and he dumps Kofi to the floor, where the lumberjacks let him take his time re-entering the ring.
Tag to Zayn, Kingston with a waistlock, reversed to a side headlock, shoot off, shoulder block, drop down, leapfrog, leapfrog, jumping back elbow wipes him out but it's only good for one. Sami with a boot up in the corner, right hand and he dumps Kofi out and again, the lumberjacks leave him unmolested. Zayn pops out of the ring and all the lumberjacks are on him to give him a beating and toss him back in!
Sami rolls out the far side and makes a run for it but the lumberjacks carry him bodily back to the ring to send us to break.
Back from commercial and the Unicorn Stampede is in full effect on Kevin Owens. Big dropkick finale from Kofi but the cover's only good for a nearfall. Drawing him up but Kev backs him in the corner and Kingston is able to fend both men off momentarily. A superkick connects and Owens puts boots to him in the corner. Tag to Sami, hammering away with punches in the corner, mocking the New Day rhythm and a short-arm lariat is good for two.
Standing WAR Special, tag made, KO in with a headbutt, just stepping right on Kingston's hand! Again mocking the rhythm, off the ropes, big senton... Kofi got his knees up! Crawling, desperate for the tag and both teams get one! E with the trifecta of belly-to-belly suplexes, off the ropes and he hits the big splash! Getting him up for the Big Ending, Zayn backs him in the turnbuckles and Kingston tags in.
High Fly Flow... NO GOOD! Kofi puts Sami to the floor with a huge back body drop and Corbin catches Roode with a forearm accidentally, setting the lumberjacks to brawl! They fill the ring but are eventually cleared out, Sami comes from behind...
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn win by pinfall with a schoolboy pin from Zayn on Kofi Kingston.
Post-match, Rusev attacks Big E and Owens gets the hell out of Dodge! Kingston with a dive on both English and Rusev, Zayn books it... Xavier Woods stops him short! New Day get Sami alone and put a beating on him. Whipped into Trouble in Paradise, and they follow it up with Midnight Hour!
Kevin Owens runs into Daniel Bryan backstage and he asks him not to fire them. Bryan asks if he doesn't care what just happened to Sami and he says he does before literally getting on his knees and begging. Dan says he doesn't have to beg, he was never going to fire them. You see, he does recognize their talent, which is why he wants him here next week for his match against Randy Orton.
Owens tells him he can't do that before thinking better of it and thanking him.
That's the show, folks.
