When Asuka vacated the women’s championship to jump to the main roster, NXT had to come up with a way to crown a new champion. Kairi Sane won the Mae Young Classic to earn a title shot but it was determined a few others would get in as well: Ember Moon (who had been chasing and came so close to defeating Asuka), Peyton Royce, and Nikki Cross.
The match went down at tonight’s (Sat., Nov. 18, 2017) NXT TakeOver: WarGames event from Houston, Texas, a showcase Fatal 4-Way.
Howl at the moon!
They did some really fun spots like this:

Everyone got some shine throughout the match, though it felt like a showcase for Sane for much of it, with Ember getting hers, and Royce always a threat to steal one. In the end, Sane wasn’t in position after Moon hit BOTH Royce and Cross with the Eclipse, pinning Cross before the “Pirate Princess” could break it up to win the title.
After, Asuka got in the ring and personally handed her the belt.
What a moment.
