Competing against trick ‘r treating and game 6 of a great World Series between two big market baseball teams... SmackDown got exactly the kind of numbers you’d think a show would get competing against trick ‘r treating and game 6 of a great World Series between two big market baseball teams - especially when a terrorist act killed U.S. citizens that afternoon.
The 2,119,000 who tuned in on Oct. 31 represented the show’s smallest audience since June. It was hardly a WWE-only issue, though. Even network juggernaughts like NBC’s This Is Us and CBS’ NCIS shows were down against the family holiday, the events of the day and the 18 - 20 million tuned in to watch the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Houston Astros to force a winner-take-all finale on Fox.
Among cable originals, the blue brand and its advertised Kevin Owens vs. Shinsuke Nakamura main event was ninth on the evening, behind Rachel Maddow on MSNBC and a slew of Fox News shows covering the fallout of the truck attack in New York City.
Rating-wise, SmackDown was second among 18 - 49 year olds behind American Horror Story, but way off last week’s .81 at a .65.
Next week won’t face the same level of competition, but it will be on tape delay from the United Kingdom, which never helps numbers.
