There was a considerable amount of legitimate concern for Shane McMahon’s health after his latest high-risk stunt at this year’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) on Sunday, Oct. 8 in Detroit.
Sure, it looked like the top of the announce desk had some padding on it, he landed as well as he possibly could from a 20 foot jump off the cage and he gave the thumbs up sign as he was being taken away on a gurney, but still. That’s a long way to fall onto anything, and he may still dance around like he’s a kid, but Shane is approaching 50. Not to mention, WWE seems to have pulled their official video of the spot, which isn’t reassuring.
WWE’s update on his condition, while definitely hopefully at least partially kayfabe, isn’t going to alleviate concern:
“SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon has been taken to a local medical facility after leaping from the top of Hell in a Cell and crashing through an announce table during his brutal Falls Count Anywhere Hell in a Cell Match against Kevin Owens.
A preliminary report has determined that Shane may be dealing with multiple injuries, including neck trauma, fractured ribs and a dislocated shoulder.
While nothing has been confirmed at this time, WWE.com will continue to monitor Shane’s condition.”
Hopefully it’s much less serious than that makes it sound, but McMahon is surely banged up today - as are Owens, Xavier Woods, Big E, Jimmy and Jey Uso, and others.
Don’t try this at home, indeed.
