Singles Match
Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
Wherein the entrances may be more scrutinized than the match.
The Road to Hell in a Cell
After some time away following losing a feud to Shinsuke Nakamura and coming up short in this year’s Money in the Bank ladder match, Dolph Ziggler re-emerged on the scene with a tweak in his act.
The Show-Off was still complaining that he was unappreciated for his show stealing abilities, but this time he came equipped with examples. Ziggler set out to troll the WWE Universe by mocking the elaborate entrances of Superstars fans value more than they him...
Enter former NXT champion Bobby Roode, a talented performer in his own right, but someone who has never had Ziggler’s reputation as an in-ring showman... and someone whose WWE career has definitely benefitted from a crowd-pleasing entrance...
It’s a pretty basic story, but that doesn’t make it bad. In fact, the simple conflict between these two has been refreshing. Will it lead to a satisfying ending at Hell in a Cell?
What’s at stake?
Roode is a bit of an odd fit as the guy standing up for the audience’s right to like whoever they like for whatever reason they choose - he’s always been a better fit as a heel than a babyface. But the focus has been more on his proving to Ziggler, and therefore us, that he’s more than just an infectious theme song and a flashy robe.
Dolph’s story is what it’s been for a long-time now... a guy who seems to have all the tools but, for one reason or another, hasn’t broken through to the next level. He’s long had a chip on his shoulder about that, and now he’s found a new way to try and make his point to the world.
He’s here to show the world, if you will.
On Sunday night, Oct. 8 in Detroit, we’ll see which of these two men is of all style, and which is of substance.
