The last minute addition of a ‘Falls Count Anywhere’ stipulation to a match already set to take place in a gimmick-filled environment raised some eyebrows this past Tuesday.
Since it’s already given us great moments like Shane McMahon being powerbombed through a table of t-shirts by Kevin Owens (and getting twerked at by someone who was definitely not Kevin Owens), it’s hard to argue with KO and Shane’s Hell in a Cell match at this Sunday’s pay-per-view (PPV) of the same name getting the extra stip. But the question of “why?” still lingers.
POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING
Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio thinks he knows:
“So, what’s the point of announcing that it’s a Falls Count Anywhere match, except that maybe they were going over various ideas, and Shane decided, ‘You know what? I’m old and I have a family; I really don’t wanna kill myself.’ And so they’re gonna do a pre-tape with a stuntman of something really stupid happening backstage, and they can do the finish there and not risk anybody’s life.”
Hmmm.
The notion that Shane might be realizing he’s not a 20-something single dude any more is actually a welcome one. His WrestleMania match this year proved he can deliver a really entertaining match with the right partner and not have to leap off the Cell or fall from an even higher part of the set.
I mean, Coast To Coast is pretty crazy in its own right.
But shouldn’t they just admit that and script a match that doesn’t require a dangerous spot? Why risk a moment which could come across poorly and take viewers out of what has otherwise been a well-built personal rivalry?
Possible spoiler and all, it’s still just a rumor/speculation.
What do you make of it, though, Cagesiders? You okay with a Shane double doing a pre-tape stunt, even if it might turn Hell in a Cell into House of Horrors?
