Best friends Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens win in SmackDown main event

@WWE

Best friends forever. The new team of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn came together for their first match since the events of Hell in a Cell tonight (Oct. 17) on SmackDown.

After a no filter Zayn verbally chopped down Daniel Bryan to open SmackDown, the GM booked the duo for the main event vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton.

Perhaps rusty from years of hating one another with the passion of a thousand flames, the team of Owens and Zayn began the match taking a ton of punishment.

With a distraction from Zayn, Owens swung the momentum in his team’s favor with a vicious back body drop on the outside on The Viper.

Influenced by the will to win or from hanging around Owens too much, Zayn cut plenty of corners in the match.

The main event would close out with Owens distracting the referee so Zayn could land a low blow on Orton. After the blatant, but perhaps morally valid, cheap shot from Zayn, Orton ate a Helluva Kick for a three count.

The night would end with a celebrating Owens and Zayn interrupted by Bryan in the back with a message about next week’s SmackDown. Next week, Shane McMahon returns to the blue brand and he will be in charge of making the matches.

Are Zayn and Ownes even better as friends than rivals? After tonight’s victory it’s becoming harder to argue that hate trumps the love of a good friend.
