WWE Production is on a roll, delivering this great mini-documentary on Mike Bennett/Kanellis struggle with painkiller addiction just a day after yesterday’s behind-the-scenes on Kevin Owens’ Hell in a Cell journey.
This one, built around a Renee Young interview with Mike and his wife Maria, is more literally life-and-death than KO’s day leading up to a wrestling match. The story of the Kanellis’ 2017 is pretty amazing, as the couple debuted with WWE prior to his getting sober, then announced her pregnancy a short-time after revealing his addiction issues to the public.
Here, Mike discusses why he began taking opioid painkillers, how he got hooked and what active addiction was like, and the process of getting clean. There are many different paths to sobriety and it can be a contentious subject. He doesn’t advocate for a specific method or program, but the Kanellis’ stated goal of sharing their experience provides an inspirational touchstone for others dealing with their own or a loved one’s struggles.
Almost 3 months clean. I can't thank @WWE enough for their constant support. To everyone fighting, let me be your voice https://t.co/V6J89y2tCT
