Chris Jericho lasted 1:00:13 in the Royal Rumble match this year, making him the Iron Man. It didn’t take long for him to put over the fact that he is now the “61-minute man.”
But he’s not the true Iron Man of the 2017 Royal Rumble at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. That honor goes to Sami Zayn.
That’s because, as our man Cain A. Knight rightly points out in his look at the match time and statistics, while Jericho may have lasted over an hour he only spent 28 minutes of that time in the ring (and 31 minutes outside of it). Zayn, meanwhile, was in the ring the entire time he was in the match and he lasted 46 minutes.
This actually works out quite well for the characters involved here. Jericho, the heel who purports to be better than he is, can claim — like he, as noted, is already doing — is the Iron Man who lasted longest despite not really being deserving of the accolade while Zayn, the scrappy underdog who never gets the credit he deserves, is actually deserving of it.
