Randy Orton, a SmackDown Live star, won the Royal Rumble.
John Cena defeated AJ Styles to become WWE world heavyweight champion, the SmackDown Live brand’s top men’s title.
Therefore, John Cena vs. Randy Orton is the main event of WrestleMania 33, as WWE.com is already promoting in the hours following last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) from San Antonio, Texas. However, they’re quick to note it’s entirely possible it won’t actually be the main event of the biggest show of the year.
That’s because, if you’ll recall, an Elimination Chamber match was booked for the PPV of the same name in just two weeks that will see Cena defending his newly won title against a group of challengers that will include Styles and at least four others. If he loses, Orton will challenge whoever wins.
Rumors suggest that could very well be Bray Wyatt.
We’ll find out in two weeks. For now, Cena vs. Orton is your WrestleMania 33 main event.
