Because one referee proved incompetent in a previous match-up, WWE assigned two officials to the tag team championship match on the Kickoff Show of tonight’s (Sun., Jan. 29, 2017) Royal Rumble event at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The idea, then, was Cesaro & Sheamus vs. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows would get a clean and clear winner.
And NEW champions.
Naturally, they booked a spot or two where the second referee got involved before Sheamus inadvertently knocked the first ref out with a Brogue Kick. That led to a tease of a finish before the action broke down. Sheamus got in and went crazy but was taken out with the Magic Killer. Cesaro charged right after and took out Gallows but Anderson took advantage of his being the legal man with a roll up that got a three count.
