WWE BACKLASH LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE

Hey, all. Kyle here to fill in for Rev as he finishes his Evolve coverage.

Preshow

In a backstage segment where Daniel Bryan is telling Apollo Crews he should have more fun in the ring, Baron Corbin interrupts upset he's not on the show. Crews agrees to have a match with him tonight and DB OKs it as a kickoff match.

Tom Phillips interviews Heath Slater and Rhyno in the Social Media Lounge. We learn that they trained by doing water aerobics at the community pool since Heath needs to win to afford the above ground pool. We also learn that they had to chase down one of Heath's children when he stole their car and drove it despite having a license. We also learn that they're going to celebrate by going to Golden Corral and that they're close to deciding on Beauty and the Man Beast as their team name.

Alexa Bliss joins the Kick Off panel with hair and make up akin to Harley Quinn. She says that she doesn't need experience to win this because she's the one willing to do what it takes.

Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin

The men start with a series of lockups in the center of the ring with no man taking the advantage. Corbin tries to go on the advantage but Crews quickness thwarts his attempts. However, when Crews goes for a springboard, Baron hits him with a big forearm, knocking Apollo to the floor and giving the bigger man the advantage.

Corbin controls for awhile, but a series of kicks from the athletic Apollo gives him life. Corbin gets tossed out of the ring but runs right back in and clotheslines Crews from behind, giving the big man advantage again.

Crews tries to fight back again but gets hit with a huge lariat for a near count. Corbin controls for a bit until Crews hits a running knee on his opponent leaving both men down in the middle of the ring.

While both men are up at the same time, Crews hits a jumping enziguri and a standing moonsault for a near fall. Barry Corbin hits a modified STO for a near fall of his own. An Olympic Slam gets Crews a near fall, then a Deep Six gets Corbin the same, as we are into the point of the match where these men are firing their best shots to no avail.

Crews slides out and Corbin follows, running at him to slam him into the corner. However, Apollo moves, and the Lone Wolf hits the ring steps. Crews follows up with a Samoan Drop on the outside. Back in the ring, Crews goes on the offensive. However, when he's pummeling Corbin in the corner, Corbin is able to hit a big knee to the face and then an End of Days for the 1-2-3.

As a 9/11 tribute, they scroll a statement in remembrance of the day 15 years ago.

The show opens with Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. Shane thanks everyone for making SmackDown a success. Bryan talks up tonight's show with the two title defenses and the crowning of two new championships. Shane lets us know they're kicking things off with the women's match!

Women's 6-pack elimination match for the SmackDown Women's title

Becky Lynch vs. Nikki Bella vs. Carmella vs. Natalya vs. Naomi vs. Alexa Bliss

There's chaos in the ring to start things off. Ring clears a bit and Becky and Naomi are alone in the ring and start wrestling. Bex tries to work the arm but can't get anything locked in on the Glow Queen. Bex back body drops Naomi on the outside and climbs the turnbuckle but Carmella knocks her down and starts going at Lynch, including a head scissors from the top rope.

That only gets her a near fall, but Nikki enters the ring to go face to face with Carmella. However, Nattie and Alexa attack both. Nattie takes her fight outside as Bliss takes it to Nikki, including her Insult to Injury combo which gets her a 2 count. Nikki hits a Disaster Kick on Bliss but Bliss hits a sunset slip pinfall to get a near count.

Nikki rolls out as Nattie rolls in and Becky follows. Naomi enters too and takes it to Natalya, even hitting a submission that Bliss is stupid enough to break up. The rest of the women get involved and it's back to Nikki and Carmella in the ring. Carm locks in the Code of Silence but Nikki picks her up for a big Alabama Slam for a very close near fall. Nikki sets up for a superplex on Carmella, but Nattie runs in and powerbombs Nikki as it happens.

Bliss runs in and tries to pin all three downed women to no avail. Bliss is a lone in the ring as Bex enters to face her. Bliss gets an extreme close nearfall on the Lass Kicker with a roll up. After some quick action, five women are outside the ring and Naomi springboard splashes them all from the top!

Bliss and Nattie end up in the ring. When Nattie is holding Bliss up in a powerbomb, Naomi hits a blockbuster on Bliss! And then pins her for the elimination!

Naomi eliminates Bliss

Naomi then goes for a springboard on Nikki in the ring but gets the BELLA HAMMER instead! However, Nattie runs in, tosses Nikki in the corner, locks Naomi into the sharpshooter for the submission.

Natalya eliminates Naomi

Really soon after that, Nikki hits the TKO on Nattie for the 1-2-3. Right after, Carmella rolls up Nikki for the 1-2-3.

Nikki eliminates Natalya

Carmella eliminates Nikki

Before she leaves, Nikki hits Carm with an elbow.

We're down to Becky and Carmella.Carmella starts with some slaps, but Becky wakes up and hits a series of suplexes on the Princess of Staten Island. A kick to the face to Becky gives Carmella control again. However when she goes to pick her up, Becky locks in the Disarmer! Carmella taps! BECKY WINS!

Becky Lynch submits Carmella to become the SmackDown Women's champion

Post match, Becky is interviewed and thanks the fans in a tearful speech.

Backstage, Miz talks to Jagger Eaton, who's apparently some kid who has a Nickelodeon show. He took the Miz's dressing room, which he apologizes for. He invites Miz on his show, unless he can get John Cena instead, which pisses off the A Lister.

Also backstage, Bray Wyatt is slamming Orton's leg into a door, which is apparently how they'll write off an Orton who word has isn't cleared to wrestle.

The Usos vs. the Hype Bros

The Usos are sans face paint and have ditched the bright colors, wearing black outfits with white hoodies.

Jey starts against Mojo and Mojo tosses him out of the ring. Jey gets back in and the Hypo Bros go to work for a moment. However, Jimmy tags in and starts working over Ryder with some chops. Ryder responds with a facebuster and some punches in the corner. He goes for the Broski Boot, but Jey pulls his brother out. Giving them no time to breath, Ryder hits them both with a baseball slide. Then when both Usos are on the outside, Mojo runs from the other side of the ring and bowls them both over! The Hype Bros are fired up (read: hyped).

Ryder slides Jimmy into the ring and goes back to work. However, Jey blind tags in and they run Ryder in the corner to take control of the Broski. The Usos work over Ryder for awhile though aren't able to put him away. Finally, Ryder lands on his feet when Jey tries to suplex him and he hits a neck breaker. However, Jey makes the tag first and Jimmy knocks Mojo off the apron to prevent Ryder to making the tag. Mojo runs in briefly but is stopped by the ref, allowing the heel brothers to get in some double teaming on Zack Daddy.

Ryder tosses out his opponent and is finally able to make it to his partner for the hot tag. Mojo takes it to Jey with some corner splashes. Jimmy tries to stop him but just gets tossed out of the ring by Rawley. He Military Press slams Jey and sets up for the finisher, but Jimmy drags Mojo outside the ring.

In the ring, Ryder and Jey are going at it on the top rope. Ryder hits a Frankensteiner and Jimmy has to run in to break up the count, but again is soon tossed out of the ring. When Mojo runs at Jimmy, he's tossed into the barricade. Back in the ring, Jey chopblocks Ryder and they hit the same back leg kick they did to Gable. Jimmy then locks in a single leg Boston Crab with the arm grapevined and Ryder is forced to tap.

The Usos def. The Hype Bros

Backstage, Renee Young interviews Heath Slater and Rhyno, asking them how they feel about facing the Usos. Heath says he's feeling really good, and then leaves. He comes back to tell Rhyno that his stomach is upset (could have been his wife's crab dip) and he's gone like five times today. Rhyno tells him they're still live so Slater plays it off as a Swerved thing. Then while playing up the WWwerved thing, he may or may not have pooed himself.

The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental championship

Before the match, Miz is yelling at Daniel Bryan about respect. Then he threatens to hold out before the match for more money. His music plays and he says he'll go win this match so that negotiations will be harder. He then says Bryan can go watch him do what Daniel can't do any more. Bryan said nothing during all of this but looked pissed.

The match starts with a take down by Ziggler, trying some mat work against the champion. Miz slides out for a rest but when he gets back in, Dolph is back to it with the mat work. Miz eventually is able to break free and gain control for a bit. Dolph hits series of drop kicks but Miz avoids a superkick and is able to take control again on the challenger. He employs some mat work on his own, with an Arrow Stretch to Dolph.

Dolph fights back briefly, but Miz catapults him over the top rope onto the floor, content to take a count out. However, when he realizes Ziggler isn't going to get counted out, he takes the fight to Dolph, with a baseball slide and then dropping him over the barricade. He slides him in for a near fall.

Miz continues to work over Ziggler in the middle of the ring with a headlock and then an inverted surfboard. Then he goes for the corner drop kicks a la Daniel Bryan! And then a mocking Yes chant! He follows it up with his corner clothesline and an axe handle from the top rope.

He goes for his Skull Crushing Finale but Dolph rolls him up for a 2 count. Then Ziggler hits a drop kick and both men are down on the mat. When they're up, it's Ziggler who is dishing out the offense, which clotheslines followed by some punches on the mat. While that only gets him a near count, Ziggler remains on the offensive -- until Miz catches his Fame Asser, power bombs him against the ropes and without releasing, on the mat. It only earns him a near fall.

Miz starts working the left leg, almost to set up for a Figure Four, but Dolph kicks him away and hits a Fame Asser for another near fall. Miz holds the ropes when Dolph attempts the Zig Zag, but when Miz picks of the challenger for a powerslam, Ziggler maneuvers into a sleeper hold. Miz struggles for awhile and runs into the corner to get Dolph to hit his head and drop the hold.

Dolph isn't down long as he hits a bit DDT for a very close near fall. He then sets up for teh superkick but his having a bunch of trouble on that left knee. Because of that, Miz catches the kick, hits a short DDT, and locks in the Figure Four! Ziggler crawls to the ropes...and finally grabs it! Miz uses all of the 5 count. The A Lister goes right back to that leg and then hits a face kick. Miz goes for another Figure Four but Ziggler pushes him off... and Superkick! But Miz gets his foot on the rope to prevent the 3 count!

Miz looks like he may be crawling out of there, OK with the count out. Dolph tries to bring the champion back in the ring, and does! They exchange near falls. But when Dolph is laying against the rope, when the ref isn't working, Maryse sprays Ziggler in the eyes with something. This leads to the Skull Crushing Finale for the 1-2-3.

Miz def. Ziggler to retain the IC title

Bray Wyatt comes to the ring for his match. However, it is announced Orton isn't cleared to compete tonight but Bray insisted on a 10 count to assure victory by forfeit. Charles Robinson obliges

Bray Wyatt def. Randy Orton via forfeit

It is then announced that Wyatt will be competing in a no holds barred match against.... Kane. We're getting Bray Wyatt vs. Kane tonight. Yup.

Bray Wyatt vs. Kane

Kane beats up Bray Wyatt outside for a bit, tossing him over a barricade and then clearing one of the announce desks. However, Wyatt hits the DEMON Kane with the ring bell and goes on the attack. When he tries to use a chair, Kane hits him with an uppercut.

The fight goes back in the ring and Wyatt hits a cross body to lay out Kane. He takes it to the Big Red Monster and eventually introduces a chair and takes it to Kane. However eventually, Kane DDTs Bray on the chair and follows up with some corner splashes and a sidewalk slam.

He then sets up for the Chokeslam, but the Eater of Worlds fights him off. However, Kane pulls Bray outside and tries for it again on the announce table. Once again, Wyatt fights it off and then hits a big clothesline on the DEMON Kane. Wyatt sets his opponent up on the readied announce table and then climbs up on the one adjacent to it, poses like Orton...and then hits a Senton that drives Kane through the table!

Kane is rolled back in the ring and Bray sets up for Sister Abigail.... but the DEMON reverses it into a Chokeslam for a near fall! Now Kane grabs the chair and calls for the Tombstone Piledriver onto it. But Wyatt hits a slam to Kane onto the chair.

Randy Orton limps down to the ring to the crowd's approval... and hits an RKO to Wyatt! And then he gets Chokeslammed for the 1-2-3.

Kane def. Bray Wyatt

I'll reiterate. Bray Wyatt just lost to Kane.

Kain here, to cover the good parts of the show. Part of the deal I made when I agreed to do these liveblogs! (Well, okay, none of that looks all that bad, but I picked a good match to slide in just past, huh?)

AJ Styles stops two local wrestlers to offer them some advice. They're destined for failure, but at least they can say they met the Face That Runs The Place.

Standard video package for the Network, here, and then a house ad for No Mercy.

Recap of the Second Chance tag match from earlier in the night. Just like I said, you got legs, the Usos are gonna beat you, it's a simple formula.

Beauty and the Man-Beast (Heath Slater & Rhyno) vs. the Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) (SmackDown Tag Team Championship Tournament Final Match)

Slater and Uso #1 (it's on his shorts!) to start, Slater laying in big hands. Whip, forearm, Uso backs off into his corner and gets a tag. Drop toehold on Uso #2, front facelock and tag to Rhyno. Whip, double elbow, arm wringer, shoulder block off the ropes. Criss-cross, Uso fights back, trying to ram Rhyno into the corner. Arm wringer, tag to Slater, kick to the gut, arm wringer, Uso punches him in the face. Jey is #2, it turns out. Headbutt sends Slater outside and they suplex him into the ringpost!

Double chickenwing and a boot to the chest and Slater's feeling it. Slams Heath into the apron and rolls him back in for a two-count. Chop sends Slater into the ropes and Jimmy chokes him. Tag made, rear chinlock and a sliding lariat back into the chinlock. Shift to a reverse chinlock, Slater to his feet, elbows but Jey lands a headbutt. Slater in the corner, Uso charges in, double stomp takes him down. Tag to Jimmy and Slater gets hammer whipped into the turnbuckle.

A second and Jey tags in. Jimmy with a backbreaker and Jey comes off the top with a diving chop. Kicks Rhyno's hand away and another hammer whip punishes Slater's back. Rhyno is the world's stockiest cheerleader as Jey lands a back suplex for two. Half nelson crossface in deep, Slater's fading but he manages to get back to his feet. Inches away from a tag and Jey yanks him back. Shoulder tackle charges Slater in the corner, tag made, Jimmy with the corner avalanche and a leg drop. Tag again, headbutt connects.

Irish whip, Slater ducks the strikes, double crossbody! TAG TO RHYNO! He bowls Jimmy over and knocks Jey off the apron. Whip, counters with a diving lariat. Shoulder block in the corner, belly-to-belly suplex, he's ready for the Gore! But Jimmy ducks it and throws him into the turnbuckle. Slater gets a tag, Miller's Crossing! Another! Kick to the gut, Sweetness! He's doing all his finishers! Jey drags him out of the cover, the snake! Slater knocks him off the apron but walks into a superkick. Rhyno lands the Gore! Slater makes the cover!

Beauty and the Man-Beast win by pinfall with a Gore on Jimmy Uso to become the inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions and earn Heath Slater a contract!

Interview time, Slater gives out a loud, high "Wooooo!" and soaks in the crowd reaction. He said when he wasn't drafted, there must have been a mistake, and he has to thank Shane and Bryan for letting him into the tournament with Rhyno. They're the tag champs, he gets a contract, and this is one of the biggest moments of his life aside from a few of his children's births. "Yo Beulah, we're getting a double-wide, baby!"

Both men out on the mat as referee Mike Chioda delivers the ten-count.

On the apron, thinking forearm but Dean ducks it. Dirty Deeds, AJ fights out, fireman's carry, Dean slips out, AJ grabs the leg and drops a knee across the back of Dean's left calf! He's hurting! Styles stomps the hell out of his leg to follow up. Another kick, and another, and AJ drags him to his feet for a third. Just wrenching back on the leg on the mat now, simple and painful, but Ambrose slips around and kicks AJ's face with his right in to escape.

Back on his feet, trying to will his knee back to life, looking for a suplex but AJ reverses, CALF KILLER! Dean's trying not to tap but he's in agony, crawling desperately towards the ropes. He gets the break! Styles drags him back up and right back into it, he's not letting up. Dean reaches around and starts slamming AJ's head into the mat to break it!

Another leg kick, AJ looking for the Styles Clash but Ambrose gets the ropes and goes to the apron. Pele kick! AJ on the apron himself now, drags Dean into a powerbomb clutch but Dean picks the legs for a catapult that sends Styles shoulder-first into the ringpost. Ambrose stalking outside, big Northern lariat sends AJ into the barricade! Back in the ring, punch to the head, corner avalanche, bulldog, La Magistral for two!

Styles Rush! Fireman's carry, Ushigoroshi for two! Looking for the Clash again but Ambrose back body drops him. Corner forearm, bulldog, AJ counters into the spinning Argentine powerbomb. Styles to his feet first, body slam, springboard 450 splash! Dean on his knees, asking for it, AJ obliges with a forearm but Dean ducks the lariat that follows and hits a snap swinging neckbreaker.

Punches and chops and knees, Ambrose going wild! Baseball slide sends AJ outside! Suicide dive sends Styles over the announce table! Dean gets up on it for a second and follows. He tosses AJ back over and then over the barricade. RUNNING DOUBLE AXEHANDLE FROM THE ANNOUNCE TABLE OVER THE BARRICADE!
