WWE wasted little time getting to the women's championship match at tonight's (Sun., Aug. 21, 2016) SummerSlam pay-per-view (PPV) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as it was the second bout on the PPV portion of the show. It got the full video package lead in, despite its positioning.
They tried to sell it as a deep rivalry between the two with a lot of hatred and bad blood, including Banks DEMANDING Charlotte "get over here and fight me." She followed that with a collar-and-elbow tie up. Thankfully, they got to slapping each other shortly after.
It looked like an angle, especially considering they immediately ran with it on social...
...but it wasn't long after that they botched a spot and Banks looked like she was legitimately struggling. Charlotte continued working the back, and commentary focused in on it, so that was simply the story of the match.
Sasha made her comeback defying death:
The crowd was completely with them from there.
The finish saw Sasha repeatedly work for the Bank Statement with Charlotte managing to slither out each time. Finally, she got it one last time and Charlotte managed to roll over and roll Sasha's legs up with her shoulders locked down to score the pin and the victory.
Your new women's champion, Cagesiders.
