The Match up:
The United States Champion, Rusev, is set to defend his title against number one contender Roman Reigns in a match at Summerslam this Sunday, August 21, 2016. The event takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Will the Bulgarian Brute show the Guy that he is the superior athlete? Or will Roman reign supreme?
The Road to Summerslam:
At Battleground last month, Roman Reigns returned to the ring after serving a 30 day suspension for violating the WWE’s Wellness policy. He promptly lost in a triple threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. He even ate the pin against Ambrose. The very next night on RAW, Reigns was gifted a chance to become the very first WWE Universal Champion. Unfortunately for him, he was pinned at the end of the show by a debuting Finn Balor.
So what was next for Reigns? I’ll tell you what: yet another unearned championship opportunity.
Most fans, such as myself, were happy when Reigns first confronted Rusev. First of all, it means no more Roman in the main event. Secondly, he was presented as "silent badass". Third, Rusev versus Reigns in the ring is straight fire. Everything seemed so promising and then . . . .
Yeah, Rusev and Lana are jerks. And Roman Reigns is a bigger one. For the life of me, I do not understand why WWE couldn’t just drape Reigns in the American flag and run with that for a few weeks. Hell, it might’ve gotten the guy actually cheered in Brooklyn. A lofty goal, yes, but the way this feud has gone almost guarantees that Brooklyn will be on Rusev’s side. I mean, the guy just lost a match to Reigns this past Monday while attempting for fight for his wife’s honor.
Why?
Reigns did not have to earn a shot at this title and he has been, for lack of a better word, a prick this entire feud. Rusev is a sexist creep. I’m rooting for Lana to slap the taste out of Roman’s mouth for speaking about her like that. Otherwise, I hope Cesaro ends up getting a US title shot, so I can root for an actual good guy against Rusev.
What a freaking mess of a feud.
The Stakes:
The United States Championship is on the line. I would say Lana’s honor is also on the line but Rusev already lost that match and now Roman has all her honor. Hopefully, she can slap it out of his face this Sunday. LET’S GO, LANA!
