Sheamus vs. Cesaro

Match One in a Best of Seven Series

Cesaro and Sheamus have a few things in common. They are big dudes. They are hard hitters in the ring. And they’re both unhappy with their standing in WWE right now.

Sheamus has been watching the New Era sneak into his world, making it feel like the business is passing him by. The man debuted in WWE in 2009, while only seven years ago, makes him one of the more tenured men on the roster. He’s in a continual fight for his place on in WWE against younger talent that keeps debuting.

Cesaro is tired of the drama. When asked after the WWE draft how he felt about how Stephanie and Mick Foley would get along on Raw, he pretty much said he just didn’t give a damn. In fact, he went as far to say that he wish he had been drafted to SmackDown which he considers the "wrestling show." The man is clearly disgruntled with his placement.

Raw’s General Manager Mick Foley saw an opportunity here. He decided to put these two men who have some pent up anger and who enjoy beating people up in the ring in together for the right to a title shot in the future. It was a match that Cesaro ended up winning.

The following week, Foley had the guys face each other again because he enjoyed the first offering so much. Cesaro won that one as well.

Later in the night, Cesaro interrupted the GM drama he despises so and asked for his title match then and there, against the United States champion Rusev for the US title. Sheamus, unhappy about dropping two to the Swiss Superman, distracted Cesaro and cost him the match.

Not surprisingly, Cesaro returned the favor last Monday distracting Sheamus in a match with Sami Zayn, resulting in the Irishman’s defeat.

Knowing these guys were going to be at each other for awhile, Mick Foley declared that starting at SummerSlam, these men would have a Best of Seven series to settle their score. So if you enjoy their work together in the ring, you’re in luck. You’re going to see them fight at least four more times. If not, tough.

At SummerSlam on Sunday, these men will try to win the first of the series to give themselves the upper hand. Will Cesaro be able to take three in a row from Sheamus or will the Irishman begin the series with a W? Tune into SummerSlam at 7 EST on the WWE Network to find out.
