WWE Battleground 2016 results: Darren Young disqualified, Miz is still Intercontinental champ

Darren Young's quest to become great again continued at tonight's (Sun., July 24, 2016) WWE Battleground pay-per-view (PPV) at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. with an Intercontinental championship match against the titleholder coming into the evening, The Miz.

He did not.

Bob Backlund was a part of the action, getting involved when Miz tried to walk out on the match. There, he and Maryse had a brief confrontation that included a physical back-and-forth that Maryse used to play up that Backlund hit her. That led to The Miz putting the former WWF champion on his backside, which led to Young putting him in the Crossface Chickenwing on the outside of the ring and the referee ringing the bell.

It appeared to be a disqualification and the announcers claimed he would be fined for not letting the hold go. It was an anticlimactic finish, and the title did not change hands.

After, Young did the old Backlund schtick where he looked at his hands crazed.
