Preshow Highlights

  • Our preshow panel consists of Renee Young,  Booker T, Jerry Lawler, and Corey Graves.
  • Zack Ryder is interviewed about his US Title match. He thinks that he has a chance to win tonight. He talks about his doubters and how he proved them wrong at WrestleMania. He vows to bring the title to SmackDown.
  • Cesaro has a few minutes on the preshow panel. He briefly talks about the Kevin Owens/Sami Zayn feud before discussing his remarks after the WWE Draft and how he'd rather be in the ring instead of being on the panel.
  • Mick Foley and Daniel Bryan join Tom Phillips in the Social Media Lounge. When asked about how they want to change things, Bryan says that he wants to bring the focus to the superstars over the management. Foley says that Bryan stole his answer, and he adds on by saying that opportunity will find those who earn it.
  • When asked about a hall-of-famer they could pick, Foley picks Terry Funk because Terry thrives on giving advice to others. Bryan agrees, but digs into Foley for saying that Terry wouldn't wrestle. As for Bryan, his pick was Shawn Michaels.
  • When they're asked about how they're going to revitalize their respective shows, Foley plans to revitalize Raw through superstar interactions. Bryan plans to revitalize SmackDown through some admittedly risky ideas. He doesn't elaborate; instead, he tells us to watch.
  • The video package for The Shield triple threat? It's amazingly well done.

The Usos vs Breezango

  • Fandango and Jey Uso. After a hip toss, Jimmy is tagged in and a backbreaker/diving hop nets them a two count. Jey tries to deliver a diving chop, but chops the rope instead. Tyler Breeze catches Jey, catapults him into a Fandango forearm, and positions him for a nice elbow drop from Fandango for two. Note that this match did start on a fast note.
  • Jey eventually escapes Breezango's corner and tags in Jimmy for the hot tag. After Samoan drops on both Fandango and Breeze, Fandango eats a hip attack for two as Breeze breaks the pin. Jey eats a Supermodel Kick after being perched on the turnbuckle, and Breeze eats a superkick soon after. In the madness, Fandango gets a two count on Jey.
  • Jimmy and Fandango battle on the turnbuckle until Breeze interferes. Breeze is kicked away and Jey enters to set Fandango up for a Doomsday Device. Breeze breaks the attempt, which turns into a double cross-body for a two count.
  • At this point, the match goes into full indy mode as bodies fly everywhere, kicks are doled out, and Usos are flying through ropes. In the end, Jimmy attempts a splash on Breeze, but eats knee. A small package earns the pin for Breezango.

Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs Sasha Banks and BAYLEY!!!!!

  • The Verizon Center needs a new roof now, because Bayley's pop was absolutely insane.
  • As Bayley and Sasha reunite, Charlotte and Dana attack from behind because of course. The bell rings and Charlotte resumes her attack on Bayley with some rough corner stomps. After some chops, Bayley gets back with a top-rope elbow.
  • Sasha is tagged in and goes to town on Charlotte with some strikes and a diving hurricanrana. Charlotte is able to stop this flurry by driving Sasha's head into the turnbuckle. The crowd is still going insane for Bayley.
  • Charlotte and Dana work Sasha over for a good while. After slapping the taste out of Dana's mouth, Bayley gets the hot tag and gets right to work until being harshly interrupted during a turnbuckle move after Charlotte provided a distraction. Now it's Bayley's turn to get worked over by the heels.
  • A HARD double clothesline stops Dana, leading to a second hot tag to Sasha, who goes to work on Charlotte, including a huge knee to the face followed by the corner knees for two.
  • Dana tries to distraction Sasha during a cross-body, but fails. Sasha tries to convert a cross-body, but only gets two. She goes for the Bank Statement, but Sasha shrugs it off and hits Natural Selection for only one as Bayley breaks the pin.
  • Right after the pin break, Sasha locks Charlotte into the Bank Statement until Dana drags Charlotte out. Outside, Bayley and Dana tussle for a moment, eventually leading to a through-the-corner dropkick from Bayley, who is knocked down by Charlotte.
  • Charlotte makes it back inside only to be greeted by a backstabber followed by the Bank Statement for the submission win.

Afterward, Sasha and Bayley hug. The Hug Life is upon us.

The New Day vs The Wyatt Family

  • Before the match, The New Day talks about being tag champs and starts talking about The Wyatts being split up. Xavier Woods is wary, saying that with them being split up, they are more dangerous than ever. Oh well, NEW!!! DAY ROCKS!!!
  • Xavier Woods and Bray Wyatt start after teasing a Big E/Braun Strowman Start. Kofi Kingston tags in and brings the heat right to Bray. Xavier is frozen in the ring during this sequence. Kofi gets Xavier out just in time for Braun to come in to toss some fool around. Erick Rowan is tagged in and starts working over Kofi.
  • All three Wyatts work over Kofi for a good while, with Bray continuing to pay particular attention to Xavier. Eventually Kofi sends Bray out of the ring, allowing him to hot tag Big E, who hosses Rowan around quite a bit. A BIG suplex gets Big E a two count as Strowman breaks the pin and destroys Xavier.
  • During the chaos, Rowan hits a HUGE side slam on Big E for two as Kofi breaks the pin. Strowman tries to intervene but it sent outside. Kofi follows with a huge senton, sending the big man down.
  • Bray attempts to end Kofi with Sister Abigail, but Xavier enters the ring and is seemingly hypnotized by Bray. Xavier starts to kneel before Bray until Kofi kicks Bray. This causes Xavier to snap out of his trance and go nuts on Bray with a huge flurry of offense. Strowman tries to stop him, but eats a spear from Big E.
  • Unbeknownst to Xavier, Bray starts crab-walking to him, scaring the bejeezus out of him. Sister Abigail seals the win.

Rusev vs Zack Ryder (United States Championship)

  • Ryder comes out in an uber-America get up. It's something you would see on a stunt driver.
  • Rusev starts by hossing Ryder around with some technical wrestling. They get outside where Ryder briefly takes control. Inside, Rusev regains control after shrugging off a dropkick. A spinning heel kick gets Rusev a two count.
  • After a reverse bearhug, Ryder breaks and starts to rally back with some stiff foearms and punches. He goes for the Broski Boot but is caught and eats a knee to the breadbasket. Rusev tries to follow with a suplex but eats a counter-neckbreaker from Ryder. A Broski Boot gets a two count for Ryder.
  • Rusev slips outside and Ryder follows only to be forced into the barricade. He is then suplexed onto said barricade as the referee counts. Rusev breaks the count and exits the ring again to deliver a huge shoulder to Ryder, who escapes at the last second. Ryder follows with a dropkick from the apron.
  • Both men make it back in the ring and ROUGH RYDER!!! Ryder tries to follow with the Elbro Drop, but Rusev gets the knees up. Rusev then hits DAT KICK to the back of the head.
  • Rusev locks in The Accolade, but Ryder doesn't tap right away; in fact, it looks like he's about to break it. Those hopes are dashed when Rusev converts into the Coquina Accolade, causing Ryder to tap.

Rusev def Zack Ryder; retains United States Championship

Afterward, Rusev starts to beat down Ryder more until...

"We don't get hype....WE STAY HYPE!!!"

IT'S MOJO RAWLEY!!!! MOJO COMES CHARGING DOWN THE RAMP AND GETS RIGHT INTO RUSEV'S FACE!!!

Rusev can't take enough of the hype, so he escapes.

Backstage, Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon are chatting about the night's events until Seth Rollins interrupts and wants his ego petted. Foley brings up Rollins losing on SmackDown and that affecting his confidence, which it hasn't. Instead, Rollins is determined to take his WWE Championship back. He, in fact, admits that he is gonna wipe the floor with Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns.

Rollins is so damn confident that he thinks he will become a god and that there will be many babies born, and their names will be Rollins.

Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens

  • The bell rings and Sami goes right for a Helluva Kick, but Owens rolls out of the ring. Sami follows and the fight is on as Owens throws Sami into the barricade. Sami soon returns the favor by whipping Owens into a couple barricades before a big clothesline.
  • Both get back into the ring where Sami hits a dropkick for two as the crowd loudly starts some dueling chants. Samie goes for his tornado DDT, but is crotched by Owens, who soon follows with a cannonball for two.
  • Owens starts beating the hell out of Sami with some brutal chops. After suplexing Sami onto the ropes, Owens hits him with a couple HUGE kicks and a senton to get a two count.
  • After a long chinlock from Owens, Sami starts to fight back with a huge clothesline after breaking the chinlock. A Michinoku driver nets Sami a two count. Owens rolls outside and Sami tries to follow with a tope, but Owens catches him and tries for an apron bomb.
  • Sami escapes and goes for a moonsault, but comes off awkwardly and lands on his bad shoulder. Owens takes advantage and targets it by hurling it into the ring post. They get back inside where Sami is able to hit a Blue Thunder Bomb for two.
  • Eventually both men end up on the turnbuckle where Owens for a superplex. Sami fights Owens off and goes for a cross body, but Owens dodges and hits right back with a superkick for two. He quickly follows with a crossface targeting the bad arm, which Sami is eventually able to break by reaching the ropes.
  • Owens is unhappy about Sami breaking the crossface, so he starts hitting HUGE corner clotheslines. He hits two and goes for a third, but eats an exploder into the corner. Sami goes for the Helluva Kick, but Owens rolls out again. Sami goes up top to deliver something, but it caught by Owens for maybe a senton, but HOLY SHIT SAMI ESCAPES AND HITS A FREAKING BRAINBUSTER ON THE APRON!!!!
  • So somehow both men are able to make it back into the ring before the ten count. They slowly make it to their feet where they start exchanging blows before the eventual hockey brawl starts until the referee breaks them up.
  • Owens rolls outside near the ring post. Sami lines up and goes for the diving DDT but SUPERKICK!!!
  • Sami is left dangling between the second and third rope, which is bad because CANNONBALL INTO SAMI'S HEAD!!! Owens follows this brutality with a MASSIVE frog splash for a close two count.
  • Owens goes for the pop-up powerbomb, but Sami catches himself and hits the signature tornado DDT. Sami goes for the Helluva Kick but SUPERKICK AGAIN!!!
  • BUT WAIT, SAMI ISN'T OUT; HE HITS A GODDAMN HALF-AND-HALF, BUT OWENS DIDN'T EVEN FEEL IT, SO HE EATS A SECOND HALF-AND-HALF FOR TWO.
  • Sami tries another Helluva Kick but HELLUVA KICK. ONE-TWO-THREE....WAIT A MINUTE, SAMI GETS HIS FOOT ON THE ROPE. IT'S STILL GOING!!!
  • Owens gets Sami up and screams "WHY WON'T YOU STAY DOWN" as he slaps Sami over and over again, but SAMI TELLS OWENS TO BRING IT, which he does until EXPLODER INTO THE CORNER, A THIRD HALF-AND-HALF AND HELLUVA KICK!!!
  • BUT WAIT, SAMI CATCHES OWENS AS HE IS GOING DOWN. HE LOOKS AT HIS FORMER FRIEND FOR A FEW TENSE MOMENTS BEFORE RESETTING OWENS FOR A SECOND HELLUVA KICK. ONE-TWO-THREE!!! SAMI WINS!!!!

Natalya vs Becky Lynch

  • The bell rings and these two harshly tie up, forcing a break in the ropes. A second tie-up and Becky starts throwing Natalya around until Natalya reaches the ropes again. After the separation, Natalya steps outside. She reenters and takes control for just a second as Becky brings some fire.
  • After a roll-up attempt, Natalya rolls outside again, but Becky follows with a diving clothesline. Natalya is able to take control soon after they reenter the ring when Becky gets her left leg caught in the ring apron. Natalya has her target...
  • ...as she starts really working that left leg with some leg locks. Becky tries for an armbar, but Natalya escapes and goes right back to work on Becky's leg.
  • After a long time of legwork, Becky goes for the Disarmer, but Natalya escapes and tries for more legwork, but eats an enziguiri. Becky starts to rally back while nicely selling her leg. A slap and a Bexploder gets her a two count.
  • Natalya goes for a discus clothesline, but Becky catches and goes for the Disarmer. Natalya escapes and goes for the sharpshooter, which Becky escapes by reaching the ropes. Soon after, Becky is able to hit a missile dropkick for two.
  • Natalya escapes to the corner as Becky charges with some fury punches, causing the referee to intervene to separate. As this goes on, Natalya kicks Becky's bad leg through the ref's legs. Natalya locks in the sharpshooter again, and Becky eventually has to tap out.

The Miz vs Darren Young (Intercontinental Championship)

  • The bell rings and we start with some aggressive chain wrestling from Darren. Eventually Miz is able to down Darren with a shoulder block as the latter consults with Bob Backlund for a moment. Darren responds by going back to the chain wrestling playbook. Again, this falls apart as a shoulder block downs Darren.
  • However, Darren isn't out as he hits Miz with a spinning elbow followed by a neckbreaker for two. The two go back and forth between the corners until Darren ends up on top of the turnbuckle. Maryse yells something at Darren, distracting him enough for Miz to knock him to the floor, allowing Miz to take control.
  • As Miz holds Darren in a chinlock, the former starts barking at Backlund because smarmy heel. Eventually Darren escapes the chinlock and a backslide battle ensues that Darren eventually wins with a two count. Miz retaliates with a boot to the face followed by some corner stomps. Miz taunts the crowd a bit, allowing Darren to recover and explode out of the corner with a clothesline.
  • Darren starts to come back with some strikes and a suplex. Miz escapes to the apron, but Darren follows and hits a back suplex on the apron for a two count. Darren calls for and tries for the crossface chickenwing, but Miz escapes and starts to leave, but one Mr. Backlund will not let him. This distraction allows Darren to throw Miz back into the ring.
  • But the outside fun isn't over. Maryse takes it on her own to slap Backlund, knocking him down. He gets up and starts to snap, causing Miz to come out and knock Backlund down. Darren gets pissed, so he comes outside and locks in a crossface chickenwing cobra clutch, leading to a count-out or DQ or something.

John Cena and Enzo & Cass vs The Club

  • Enzo Amore absolutely murders it on the microphone. These guys are the best.
  • Enzo and Karl Anderson start as the crowd awakens with loud dueling chants. A too-sweet tag and AJ Styles is facing Enzo as a "soccer mom" chant starts. AJ hits a big dropkick, causing Enzo to think before tagging Big Cass in. Anderson tags himself in to take on Cass, which he briefly succeeds in before eating a shoulder block.
  • Anderson finds himself in the face corner where he has an Enzo thrown onto him after said Enzo is thrown onto Luke Gallows. Anderson and Gallows escape outside, but cannot escape a thrown Enzo, and later we learn that they cannot escape a thrown AJ either as he is launched into everyone.
  • Cass slams Anderson, tags Enzo in, and slams Enzo into Anderson for a two count. This controls abruptly ends when Anderson clocks Enzo. The Club takes control and starts working Enzo over as Cena begs for a tag.
  • After a while, Enzo escapes The Club and is about to get a tag, but Anderson intercepts him with a flying knee for two, reestablishing control for The Club, but this only brief as Enzo dodges a splash.
  • Enzo tags Cena for a hot tag as Cena works over AJ, hitting the shoulder tackles and Five Knuckle Shuffle. Cena goes for the AA, but AJ escapes and hits a Pele kick. AJ clocks Enzo before setting up for the Styles Clash. Enzo is angered by this, so he enters the ring and hits a big tornado DDT.
  • After this, insanity ensues with everyone flying into everyone, including Enzo mistakenly hitting Cena with a cross-body, but Cena catches Enzo and gives him to Gallows, who tosses him away. Soon after, Cena hits AJ with a big AA as Anderson pulls Cena out and spinebusts him on the announce table. More insanity ensues and bodies lie everywhere.
  • Cena makes it back into the ring before the ten count as AJ is still recovering. AJ gets up and calls for the Styles Clash, which he hits for a two count as Big Cass pulls AJ out and punts his head all the way to the National Harbor. Soon after, Big Cass finds his way back into the ring where he eats the Magic Killer.
  • One problem. Enzo is still conscious, and is lookin' for a fight against The Club. He gets it as he faces off against Gallows. This promptly ends as Gallows kicks Enzo's head off. Cena somehow reenters the ring, crotches AJ, throws Gallows outside, and hits the Super AA on AJ to win.

Chris Jericho comes out for The Highlight Reel. You probably forgot that this was happening.

Jericho starts by quieting the crowd before proclaiming this the biggest Highlight Reel in WWE History. Why? Because his guest is the returning Randy Orton, who is very happy to be back.

Orton says that he really enjoyed the time off with his wife and children, but something had been missing - the WWE Universe. He says that he enjoyed the welcome so much that he doesn't mind sharing the ring with Jericho.

The crowd chants for the RKO as Orton starts teasing it. Jericho starts putting himself over.

Stand by - technical difficulties.

After the difficulties clear, Jericho is ranting about the 69 tacks because of course. As for Orton, Jericho wants to give him a present: The Gift of Jericho. Orton gets close, but startles Jericho because he wanted a good look at Jericho's hair for reasons.

Jericho reminds Orton that Brock Lesnar, the most destructive force in WWE, is still coming for him.

Cue Lesnar destruction video clip.

After the clip, Jericho briefly talks about Orton and Lesnar's history and how Orton somehow always avoided Lesnar. Jericho thinks that Orton is scared of Lesnar. Orton tries to interrupt, but Jericho asks why Orton why he wants to face certain death at the hands of Lesnar. Orton answers by simply saying that he wants to make a statement after a long time away.

Orton makes a VICIOUS dig at Jericho having to face Fandango back in 2013. The heat is real.

Jericho admits that he doesn't like Orton, and tells him that Lesnar is going to pretty much murder him.

Orton, unsurprisingly, is ready for Suplex City. However, one RKO can lead to Viperville.....NO ENHANCEMENT NEEDED. The burn is real right now.

After taking a moment to recover from the nuclear burn, Jericho relays some messages from Lesnar - usual threatening messages. The usual "stupid idiot" message comes out before Jericho begs for a RKO.

Jericho tells Orton to stay out of his business. Orton responds by oh-so-teasing a RKO before RKO OUTTA NOWHERE!!!
