The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Battleground show set to take place on Sun., July 24, 2016, at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. This will be the fourth event to use the name as the annual July showcase heading into SummerSlam.
We're just one week out from showtime and here's how the card looks:
- Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns (WWE world heavyweight championship)
Ambrose cashed in the Money in the Bank contract to win the title just after Rollins defeated Reigns for it in the main event of the Money in the Bank PPV. The next night, Reigns and Rollins went to a double count out in a number one contender match in the main event of Raw, leading to both getting booked in a triple threat to headline this show. It was revealed just one day later that Reigns had failed a Wellness test and he's been suspended for 30 days. He will be back in time for this event, however, and he wasn't pulled from the match. Instead, his failure has been used as fodder for Rollins' promos.
- Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn
The sell job they've done for this is that it will be their final encounter after a decade of feuding with each other. You can count on that being wrong, but the match being good.
- John Cena & Enzo & Big Cass vs. The Club
AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows have made a habit of beating up John Cena. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady had enough of it while also deciding to make a statement themselves and made the save last week on Raw. The match was announced not long after.
- Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
An inadvertent bump into each other at Money in the Bank led to Nattie snapping and the two have been battling back-and-forth ever since. This is where they settle their differences once and for all, maybe.
- The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family
After a big battle at the Wyatt Family Compound, a six-man tag match was announced. The tag team titles, for whatever reason, are not on the line.
- Rusev vs. Zack Ryder (US championship)
Ryder won a match against Sheamus and that gave him confidence to issue a challenge. Then he lost to Sheamus, and Rusev accepted. Yeah, I don't know either.
- The Miz vs. Darren Young (Intercontinental championship)
Young won a battle royal -- by laying in the corner and everyone else eliminating themselves -- to become top contender.
- Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs. Sasha Banks & TBA
The Boss is currently looking for a tag team partner.
- The Highlight Reel with Randy Orton
The Viper makes his return to chat with Chris Jericho. Considering recent news surrounding Brock Lesnar and his failed drug test before UFC 200, I wonder what they'll talk about?
