WWE MONEY IN THE BANK LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE
Chris here. "Best ever Money in the Bank show?" Let's find out!
__________________________________
Preshow Highlights
- Our preshow panel consists of Renee Young, Booker T, Lita, and Corey Graves (who looks more hipstery than I ever thought possible). No Jerry Lawler due to his suspension.
- Renee and Lita share photos of their Las Vegas adventures.
- Tom Phillips is in the Social Media Lounge, and his guests will be Becky Lynch and Natalya. A preemptive "RIP" to their WWE careers is in order.
- The video package for John Cena vs AJ Styles is so much fire. This match gonna be lit (fam).
- Beckstage, Sami Zayn tries to talk to Cesaro about the Money in the Bank match. Zayn was talking about being underappreciated, and Cesaro was just trying to get in the zone.

Breezango vs Golden Truth (Preshow)
- Admittedly I'm not all familiar with this Breezango/Golden Truth rivalry due to a busy last three months, but it revolves around tanning booth shenanigans? Reminds me of the Edge/Booker T match at WrestleMania X-8 that revolved around shampoo.
- Also, Breezango are so sunburnt that they look like extras from Cabin Fever.
- R-Truth and Fandango start, and Fandango can't even do a tie-up due to his burn. Truth offers himself for a hammerlock, but instead chops Fandango's burnt chest. A few chops ensue and Tyler Breeze is tagged in painfully.
- Goldust is tagged in and starts taking advantage of Breeze's sunburn with some slaps and chops. Goldust teases Shattered dreams, but Breeze slips out, climbs the turnbuckle, and flies into a slap on the sunburn.
- Truth and Fandango are tagged in and Fandango eats more sunburn punishment before eating ten corner punches. He tries to follow up with a scissors kick, but catches Breeze holding the rope down. Truth hits Breeze's sunburn, but the distraction allows Breezango to take advantage with some leg-based offense.
- Fandango and Breeze trade tags and work over Truth's leg until Fandango eats a leg lariat.
- Goldust gets the hot tag and goes to work. Breezango try to take advantage of a hard corner whip on Goldust, but Truth intervenes and pulls Breeze out of the ring. This sets up Fandango for the Final Cut.
Golden Truth def Breezango

The Dudley Boyz vs Lucha Dragons (Preshow)
- Bubba Ray starts by trash talking Kalisto, but Kalisto isn't intimidated. Kalisto rolls, and Bubba Ray follows suite with a roll. D-Von is tagged in after a short tie-up.
- D-Von powers Kalisto into the Dudleys' corner. Bubba Ray tries a cheap shot as the ref is distracted, but Kalisto dodges. More tie-ups, and D-Von maintains dominance until Kalisto uses his quickness to take advantages.
- Sin Cara is tagged in and some flippiness ensues, sending the Dudleys outside. The Lucha Dragons follow with twin tope con hilos. Back in the ring, the Lucha Dragons try to do a double dropkick or something off the top rope, but both are crotched to head into the commercial.
- Back from break and Bubba Ray works over Sin Cara as the crowd chants for tables. D-Von is tagged in and the punishment continues. After a while, Sin Cara hit a dropkick on Bubba Ray, allowing for Kalisto to get the hot tag. Bubba Ray breaks a pin following a springboard senton. Kalisto soon eats a Doomsday Device for two as Sin Cara breaks the pin.
- The Dudleys call for a 3D on Kalisto, but Kalisto gets out of the way and Bubba Ray eats a clothesline from D-Von. The Dudleys go for a second 3D, but Kalisto catches himself on a rope. D-Von is dumped from the ring, and Bubba Ray eats a Salida Del Sol followed by a Swanton to seal the win for the Lucha Dragons.

The New Day vs Enzo and Cass vs The Club vs The Vaudevillains (WWE Tag Team Championship)
- What....in the hell.....is Enzo wearing?!? Also, Enzo had a crazy night with Lady Luck last night, so there's that.
- The Vaudevillains look more ridiculous than usual tonight. They're edging into hipster-steampunk territory if there is such a thing.
- The New Day doesn't believe the booty chatter about the other teams winning the tag titles. New Day hits hard on Enzo and Cass, calling them a "washed up Han Solo and a hairless Chewbacca." The Vaudevillains are the Monopoly Men. As for The Club, they're going back to Japan with a big bowl of Booty-Os.
- I suck at covering these kinds of insane matches, but here goes...Kofi Kingston and Karl Anderson start. Kofi goes for an early pin after a reverse elbow, but gets a once count and soon starts getting worked over by The Club for a brief moment. Kofi breaks out and soon cross-bodies Anderson as Enzo cross-bodies Luke Gallows.
- Somewhere in the madness Enzo is tagged in and ties up with Kofi. Some fun chain-wrestling goes down as the crowd does their Enzo soccer chant. After a tug of war, a hoss fight wet dream gets realized as Big Cass and Big E face off.
- Unfortunately, the realization has to wait as Aiden English tags himself in and eats a suplex for his troubles. Kofi is tagged in and tries to pin English after Big E splashes him on the apron. The pin is broken and all four teams enter the ring for the obligatory brawl.
- After the brawl, New Day and The Realest Guys briefly brawl until English (still legal) enters and controls Kofi.
- Simon Gotch is tagged in and starts working over Kofi some more. The Vaudevillains exchange tags as Kofi continues to eat some punishment. Kofi briefly escapes the punishment with a jawbreaker, but this allows English to stagger into The Club's corner where Anderson tags himself in. Anderson does some work (including knocking Big E off the apron).
- After Kofi gets Anderson down, Enzo and English are tagged in, causing a hot tag for the former. This quickly ends when Gallows pulls the top rope down as Enzo runs toward it, causing him to tumble to the floor.
- Big ol' Luke Gallows is tagged in to work on Enzo and hits a big side kick for two.
- After a DDT from Enzo, Big Cass gets the nuclear tag and gets to work throwing everyone around. After an Empire Elbow, Cass gets an interfering English outside with the help of a huge boot. Cass then launches Enzo into a big group on the outside.
- Inside, Anderson eats a Cass boot and Air Enzo, but Gallows saves it.
- Insanity ensues afterward, including a Whirling Dervish on Anderson for two as Gallows saves it. Even more absolute insanity continues with finishers and boots and downright "WTF?!?" moment. Told you I always have trouble with these matches.
- At the end, The Club hits the Magic Killer on Aiden English for two as Big E downright hosses Anderson up from the pin cover into the Big Ending position. Gallows tries to interject, but Cass gets him on the apron and follows with a mother of a boot sending them both outside. Inside, New Day hits their finisher to win.
The New Day def The Vaudevillains, Enzo and Cass, and The Club

Tom Phillips interviews Kevin Owens about his first Money in the Bank. Owens immediately demands Phillips to clarify the "first" part, which is the first MITB ladder match (remember last year when Owens apron-bombed John Cena). Chris Jericho interrupts and gets called an insecure egomaniac who loves stealing spotlights.
Jericho asks Owens about his chipped tooth, and start talking about how he is the spotlight. Jericho talks a bit more before Owens makes him realize that he has never won a MITB ladder match (which Jericho created, mind you).
As the two start arguing, Alberto Del Rio comes in and immediately gets some sass from Owens. Del Rio tries to impress with his resume, but Owens couldn't give any less damns.
Everyone starts arguing about the word "perro." Jericho turns it into a moment to promise that he's gonna win the MITB briefcase and give everyone the gift of Jericho. Owens will just stick to water.
After everyone leaves, Jericho calls everyone "stupid idiots."

Baron Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler
- The feud that never ends...
- Zigger starts this one by going for technical wrestling on Corbin's legs, which doesn't work well. After some more grappling, Corbin breaks and escapes a superkick attempt. Ziggler gets a few moves in, but this is stopped when Corbin hits a brutal right on Ziggler's face.
- A dueling "Let's go Ziggler/Ziggler sucks" chant starts as Corbin keeps working over Ziggler. Ziggler tries to whip Corbin to the corner, but Corbin slips out of the ring, reenters behind Ziggler, and clotheslines Ziggler's head off for a two count.
- Corbin keeps the aggression up, stopping any comeback attempt from Ziggler. The crowd chants "boring" as Corbin does some trademark bantering.
- Ziggler starts a comeback after escaping another big right hand from Corbin. An elbow drop gets Ziggler a two count. He tries to follow with a Famouser, but Corbin catches him mid-Famouser, throws Ziggler into the air, and hits a huge clothesline for a close two count.
- Ziggler makes his way up and goes for a second Famouser, but fails and eats turnbuckle. Corbin charges, but his shoulder meets the steel ring post. This allows Ziggler to finally hit the Famouser for two. I should mention that the crowd has checked out of this match.
- Ziggler calls for the superkick, and Corbin heads outside. Ziggler follows outside and literally stumbles into Corbin's arm. Love isn't found as Corbin hits Deep Six on the outside. Ziggler makes it in at a nine count.
- Corbin hits a big move on Ziggler and taunts. Ziggler tries to get a DDT in, but it thrown off as Corbin goes for End of Days. Ziggler flips out of End of Days and lands a big superkick for two.
- For whatever reason, Ziggler goes up top and gets punished for it by Corbin. Corbin climbs up and calls for a superplex but fails. Ziggler knocks Corbin off the top and subsequently gets knocked off himself when Corbin recovers. End of Days ends this thing.
Baron Corbin def Dolph Ziggler

Charlotte and Dana Brooke vs Natalya and Becky Lynch
- Attention, Dana Brooke has a cape.
- Natalya and Dana start as a loud "we want Sasha" chant starts. Natalya gets control right as Charlotte gets tagged in. Becky gets tagged in and hits a Hart Attack on Charlotte and sends Dana outside. They soon follow with stereo baseball slides.
- Becky gets Charlotte inside for a two count and tags Natalya back in. After a moments, the inevitable distraction occurs thanks to Dana. This allows Natalya to eat Charlotte's boot, giving the heels control.
- Eventually Natalya gets a break, knocks Dana and Charlotte outside, and hot tags Becky, who goes to work. Becky hits Charlotte with the Bexploder for two as Dana breaks the pin. Dana tries to get Charlotte up and both women eat a dropkick from Becky.
- Becky tags Natalya in and both go for a suplex on Charlotte, who flips out of it and knocks Becky outside. Inside, Natalya locks a Sharpshooter on Charlotte until Dana breaks it up. Becky pulls Dana away until Dana throws Becky into Natalya. The distraction allows for Natural Selection on Natalya.
Charlotte and Dana Brooke def Becky Lynch and Natalya
But wait, there's more! As Becky starts to leave, Natalya turns heel and beats the hell out of Becky before leaving the ring.

Tom Phillips asks Dean Ambrose about his strategy for tonight's ladder match. Ambrose says that he's not much of a strategy guy. He compares the Money in the Bank ladder match to a jungle, and the briefcase is the light at the end of the jungle. Phillips asks Ambrose about a comment for tonight's WWE World Heavyweight Title match, and he just says that beating up Seth Rollins is fun.

Sheamus vs Apollo Crews
- Before the bell even rings, Sheamus gets rights in Apollo's face. The bell rings and Sheamus briefly hosses Apollo around until the latter returns the favor. Apollo soon hits a dropkick and dumps Sheamus from the ring.
- Apollo follows Sheamus outside where he eats an Irish Curse Backbreaker. Sheamus continues by kicking Apollo a bit before reinserting him in the ring. Inside, Sheamus delivers a few short-arm clotheslines and kicks Apollo in the face.
- Apollo tries to fight out, but Sheamus keeps the pressure on with some srtikes and a chinlock. Apollo tries a comeback, but eats a rolling senton for two, and Sheamus returns to the chinlock.
- Apollo does start his comeback after a rolling school-boy gets him two. Apollo soon hits a cross-body and an enziguiri for two. Sheamus gets Apollo on the ropes, but Apollo counts with a belly-to-belly, which sends Sheamus outside. Apollo follows with a beautiful moonsault.
- Apollo gets Sheamus back inside and hits a slam for two. Sheamus recovers after and hits a powerslam for two. Sheamus goes for a backbreaker, but Apollo fights out and soon gets on the turnbuckle. Sheamus gets on the turnbuckle and WHITE NOISE FROM THE SECOND ROPE!!! Surprisingly, this only gets a two count. As Sheamus argues, Apollo rolls him up to win.
Apollo Crews def Sheamus

John Cena vs AJ Styles
- Did you ever think that this would happen? Well, it's happening!
- Before the bell even rings, the crowd is on fire with the dueling chants for Styles and Cena.
- The two tie up and AJ controls with a side headlock. Cena whips AJ and AJ just rolls out and taunts Cena. AJ doesn't have time for this.
- Cena takes control of AJ's arm until AJ quickly returns to a side headlock and starts the banter game. Cena whips AJ and AJ takes Cena off his feet, saying that he's gonna run circles around Cena. This crowd is still on fire.
- They tie up again and AJ has control. AJ is whipped out again and tries to take Cena off his feet, but Cena is ready for it. Cena hits a couple deep arm drags and follows up by flipping AJ across the ring. Cena goes for the AA, but AJ escapes and cracks Cena in the face. AJ follows with more strikes and chops.
- AJ is whipped again and does a flip OVER Cena, leaving Cena aghast. AJ hits a few strikes and turns his back on Cena. Cena takes this moment and hits a belly-to-belly on AJ.
- The two end up outside where Cena tries to throw AJ into the ring steps. AJ simply leaps them and taunts Cena some more. They get back inside where AJ regains control with more stiff strikes. A knee gets AJ a two count.
- AJ hits Cena with a suplex and asks if that's all that Cena's got. The answer is "no" as Cena starts hitting AJ with some strikes. This rally is stopped as AJ dodges a corner splash from Cena. AJ takes advantage and lands a VERY stiff kick to Cena's chest.
- Cena gets back up and hits AJ with a very high back body drop. Cena starts going for his shoulder tackles, but AJ hits a dropkick before the second one lands. AJ follows with a chinlock. Soon enough, Cena powers out and goes for the moves of doom, but eats an enziguiri from AJ as he goes for the protobomb.
- Cena finally hits the protobomb and goes for the Five Knuckle Shuffle. As Cena taunts a bit, AJ hits a hurricanrana and follows with a diving clothesline to the outside. AJ taunts and goes for another dive to the outside. Cena is ready and dodges the dive, leaving AJ lying on the outside.
- Cena goes for the AA and eats some AJ elbows. AJ hits his signature strikefest and a corner clothesline. AJ goes for his diving forearm, but CENA GRABS HIM AND LOCKS IN THE STF OUTTA NOWHERE!!! AJ struggles, but eventually reaches the ropes.
- AJ rolls outside and hangs Cena's neck on the rope. AJ gets up and climbs the top rope where Cena meets him. Cena calls for a superplex. After a struggle, AJ slips out and take's Cena's foot off the rope, causing him to land face-first on the turnbuckle. AJ runs at Cena and himself gets hung on the top rope.
- Cena places AJ on the top rope for a potential super AA. AJ fights out and sends Cena crashing to the mat. AJ lines up for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Cena catches him for an AA attempt. WAIT A MINUTE, AJ REVERSES OUT OF THE AA INTO THE CALF CRUSHER!!!!! Cena struggles, but eventually powers his way to the ropes.
- Cena's left leg is AJ's target as he starts hitting it with some hard kicks. AJ goes for something and CENA COUNTERS WITH A MONSTER CLOTHESLINE!!! Cena follows with a fist drop and tries to follow with an AA. AJ fights, but Cena powers through and hits the AA for a two count as AJ easily counts out.
- Cena climbs the top rope to go for the leg drop, BUT HOLY HELL AJ COUNTERS WITH A MASSIVE POWERBOMB OUT OF NOWHERE, LEAVING BOTH MEN ON THE GROUND!!! This gets a VERY close two count.
- AJ gets Cena up and the two start trading strikes until Cena takes control. Cena rails AJ until PELE KICK AND STYLES CLASH, BUT CENA STILL KICKS OUT AT TWO!!!
- AJ heads to the apron and SPRINGBOARD 450 RIGHT ONTO CENA'S AWAITING KNEES!!!!
- Cena and AJ slowly make it to their feet where both men tease their finishers and HOLY BALLS WHAT A SEQUENCE!!!
- CENA HITS THE AA, BUT THE REF WAS KNOCKED OUT OF THE RING!!! As Cena tries to figure out what's going on, The Club comes down and hits the Magic Killer on Cena. AJ rolls onto Cena for the pinfall.

Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens vs Cesaro vs Alberto Del Rio vs Dean Ambrose vs Chris Jericho (Money in the Bank ladder match)
- The bell rings and everyone starts brawling as usual. Inside, Ambrose and Jericho have an exchange as everyone else plays outside and gets some ladders. Jericho whips Ambrose and the latter dives right onto Owens.
- Inside, Cesaro uppercuts Jericho and Del Rio kicks Cesaro in the ass before hitting a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Cesaro quickly recovers and hits one of his own. Cesaro ends up flipping on the apron and boots Del Rio. He then hits a somersault senton on Jericho, who was holding a ladder...that looked painful.
- As everyone brawls, Zayn hits a tope on everyone. Soon it's him and Owens facing off. Owens shoves Zayn onto the apron with the assist of the ladder. Owens runs at the ladder, but stops and just superkicks Zayn. Owens soon eats ladder served up by Jericho.
- Jericho gets in the ring with the ladder. Cesaro jumps from a turnbuckle and eats ladder. Jericho follows with a facebuster on said ladder. Jericho hits Cesaro with the ladder a bit more until Ambrose comes in and plants Jericho on a ladder. Jericho gets revenge and suplexes Ambrose on the ladder after a short struggle.
- Jericho gets annoyed and sandwiches Ambrose until Del Rio breaks the torture. Del Rio tosses Jericho on the ladder and whistles before placing the ladder on the top rope. He tries to whip Cesaro into it, but Cesaro stops the attempt with an uppercut. An uppercut train ensues until Owens kicks Cesaro and tosses him hard into the ladder.

- Del Rio starts climbing the ladder until Jericho stops him. Del Rio responds with a weird stomp from the ladder. Del Rio restarts his climb and is stopped by Cesaro, who climbs himself. Del Rio greets Cesaro with a modified armbar on the ladder until Owens superkicks Del Rio. Cesaro jumps off with a corkscrew uppercut on Owens.
- Ambrose hops in the ring now and hits Dirty Deeds on Ambrose. As this goes on, Jericho climbs the ladder. They tussle until Jericho hits Ambrose with the Codebreaker. Jericho climbs up again and is stopped by Zayn. They fight until Owens shoves the ladder over, knocking both men to the ground.
- Owens start the climb when Del Rio pulls him off the ladder with a backstabber. Del Rio collapses the ladder until Cesaro uppercuts him. Cesaro starts swinging Del Rio and drops him. Jericho tries for a Codebreaker, but gets swung himself and tossed into a ladder.
- Cesaro opens the ladder in the corner until stopped by Ambrose. After taking Cesaro out, Ambrose climbs said ladder and jumps and delivers an elbow to Cesaro. Ambrose struggles to his feet and has a ladder thrown into him by Owens. Owens places Ambrose on the ladder and delivers a huge frog splash onto Ambrose.
- As everyone lies dead outside, Owens and Zayn start fighting in the ring until ZAYN HITS OWENS WITH THE MICHINOKU DRIVER ONTO A SIDEWAYS LADDER. Seriously, the ladder was on its side.....that looked ridiculously painful.
- Zayn starts to climb the ladder and reaches for the briefcase until Del Rio starts hitting Zayn with another ladder. Somehow Zayn stays on the ladder until Del Rio pulls him off and hits a DDT. Afterward, Del Rio bridges a ladder from the corner onto the set-up ladder.
- Del Rio climbs and is stopped by Zayn. As Zayn abuses Del Rio, Jericho starts climbing the other side. Cesaro sandwiches Jericho with the ladder and then bridges it as well.Owens and Ambrose get on the bridged ladders and everyone starts brawling.
- Cesaro and Del Rio are kicked off Mt. Ladder, leaving Owens, Zayn, Jericho, and Ambrose on the ladder. Cesaro sets up another ladder and starts climbing. Del Rio climbs the other side....get ready.
- Del Rio and Cesaro's ladder is kicked over, crotching Cesaro and hanging Del Rio. Soon Jericho and Ambrose are knocked off the ladder and Zayn crotches Owens on the bridged ladder. Zayn climbs and reaches the contract until Jericho stops him. As Jericho reaches, Ambrose stops him and channels his inner Randy Orton with a hanging Dirty Deeds.
- Zayn climbs the ladder until he's pulled off by Owens and POWERBOMBED INTO THE LADDER. Owens and Ambrose climb the ladder and fight at the top until Ambrose hits Owens' head into the ladder, causing Owens to crash into the bridged ladder. Alone, Ambrose gets the briefcase.
