Match Times
The 5 matches combined for a total time of 1h 03m 40s. This means that 53.7% of the show was devoted to bell-to-bell action.
Here is the sorted list of match times for NXT TakeOver: The End...:
- 17m 06s: Austin Aries vs Shinsuke Nakamura
- 16m 10s: Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor
- 15m 52s: American Alpha vs The Revival
- 9m 11s: Asuka vs Nia Jax
- 5m 21s: Andrade Almas vs Tye Dillinger
Pre-match Segments
The pre-match segments combined for a total time of 31m 26s, which is 26.5% of the show.
Here is the sorted list of pre-match segment time for all 5 matches:
- 10m 33s: Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor
- 7m 19s: Asuka vs Nia Jax
- 6m 22s: Austin Aries vs Shinsuke Nakamura
- 4m 36s: American Alpha vs The Revival
- 2m 36s: Andrade Almas vs Tye Dillinger
The pre-match segment for Dillinger's match was the only one that lacked a dedicated video package to hype up the match.
The dedicated video packages for American Alpha's match (2m 00s), Nakamura's match (2m 27s), Asuka's match (3m 14s), and Balor's match (2m 33s) combined to take up 10m 14s of the overall pre-match segment time for this event.
For those who are curious, Balor's entrance lasted roughly 3m 10s; Nakamura's entrance lasted 1m 55s.
Post-match Segments
The post-match segments combined for a total time of 14m 55s, which is 12.6% of the show.
Here is the sorted list of the post-match segment time for all 5 matches:
- 5m 06s: Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor
- 4m 38s: American Alpha vs The Revival
- 2m 28s: Austin Aries vs Shinsuke Nakamura
- 1m 25s: Asuka vs Nia Jax
- 1m 18s: Andrade Almas vs Tye Dillinger
Miscellaneous Segments
That leaves about 7.1% (8m 26s) of the show for everything else.
Most of these miscellaneous segments are crammed into the time after one post-match segment ends and before the next pre-match segment begins. NXT TakeOver: The End... included 5 different blocks of miscellaneous segments. Here is how long each block lasted, in chronological order:
- Block 1: 3m 10s (Opening hype video; welcome to NXT TakeOver: The End...)
- Block 2: 0m 39s (Plug for Triple H on Facebook Live; Nia Jax backstage)
- Block 3: 1m 38s (Hype for Warcraft; Asuka and Bayley backstage)
- Block 4: 0m 15s (Samoa Joe arriving at the building)
- Block 5: 2m 44s (Ad for Breaking Ground: Reloaded; Regal and Roode backstage)
Summary
Here is a listing of how much total show time was allocated for each match when you add up all 3 components: pre-match time, match time, and post-match time:
- 31m 49s: Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor
- 25m 56s: Austin Aries vs Shinsuke Nakamura
- 25m 06s: American Alpha vs The Revival
- 17m 55s: Asuka vs Nia Jax
- 9m 15s: Andrade Almas vs Tye Dillinger
One thing that sticks out to me here is that the pre-match segment for Joe's match (10m 33s) lasted longer than the sum of all three components for Dillinger's match (9m 15s).
Now here is a look at the "Match Time Percentage" for each match. For any given match, this percentage shows how the match time compares to the combined pre-match and post-match segment time.
(Here's an example calculation: an entry with a match time of 6m 00s, pre-match time of 3m 00s, and a post-match time of 1m 00s has a score of 60.0%, because the match time of 6m 00s is 60% of the total sum of 10m 00s for all three components.)
- 65.9%: Austin Aries vs Shinsuke Nakamura
- 63.2%: American Alpha vs The Revival
- 57.8%: Andrade Almas vs Tye Dillinger
- 51.3%: Asuka vs Nia Jax
- 50.8%: Samoa Joe vs Finn Balor

I have collected timing data on 42 WWE pay-per-view (PPV) events over the last 3+ years; the timing component percentages for those shows collectively are: 22.7% pre-match segment time, 53.9% match time, 9.9% post-match segment time, and 13.5% miscellaneous segment time.
I don’t have much timing data yet on past NXT events so for now all I can really say is that NXT TakeOver: The End... seems to fit right in line with the overall match time of the typical WWE PPV.
However, just like NXT TakeOver: Dallas, the pre-match segment percentage for this event was very high; only 5 of the 42 WWE PPVs in my data set scored higher than 26.5%.
Only 1 of the 42 WWE PPVs in my data set scored lower than this event’s 7.1% in the miscellaneous segment category. NXT TakeOver: Dallas also scored on the extreme low end in this category, and it is certainly tempting to see a pattern here even with a dangerously small sample size of two.

Pre-match - 26.5% - 31m 26s
