On Monday night's episode of RAW, the four-person feud for the Intercontinental Championship finally took the next step: Cesaro, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will try to capture The Miz's title in a Fatal 4-Way match at Extreme Rules on May 22.
This feud has been simmering since Owens and Zayn got involved in the finish of Cesaro vs. The Miz at Payback, costing Cesaro his first Intercontinental Championship. On Monday night, Shane and Stephanie McMahon were getting ready to make a Triple Threat match for the title at Extreme Rules when the four men (and Maryse) began arguing backstage. Zayn offered a proposal: if he could defeat The Miz later in the evening, the Intercontinental Championship would be defended at Extreme Rules in a Fatal 4-Way.
That sounded good to both Shane and Stephanie, so they agreed. Sure enough, Zayn managed to defeat Miz in a non-title match in the second hour of RAW and now all four will meet up in two weeks with the belt on the line ... and Miz won't have to be pinned or submitted in order for a new champion to be crowned.
Neither Cesaro nor Zayn have ever won the Intercontinental Championship before.
