Santino Marella joins the free agent list

WWE.com

This one feels like a foregone conclusion, considering the man himself announced his retirement back in 2014following news he'd require neck surgery for a third time, but WWE has made it official and added Santino Marella to the list of performers they've "come to terms" with for release.

The Canadian wrestler, real name Anthony Carelli, came up through the company's Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) developmental program in the mid-Aughts before debuting with a surprising Intercontinental title win in 2007. Throughout his run over the next decade, he was a comedic figure, working with others like Maria Kanellis, Beth Phoenix and Vladimir Koslov as straightmen/women.

Since saying goodbye to his hometown crowd in Toronto in September of 2014, he's made a couple of appearances for the company, promoting his movie Jingle All the Way 2 and presenting a Slammy award - with associated skits - but otherwise, the tag, IC and United States champ has focused on running his BattleArts gym in Ontario.

Enjoy your retirement, you summanagum.
