WWE Extreme Rules 2016 results: New Day retain tag titles against the Vaudevillians

Xavier Woods was still mourning his time machine (which Big E insists was just a refridgerator box), your WWE World Tag Team champions still had jokes. Being in the Garden State of New Jersey for Extreme Rules, The New Day brought a couple of hoes (the gardening implement) with them. These tools represented their foes, and destroyers of time machines/appliance containers, the Vaudevillains.

The positive trio planned to put those hoe-hoes in the ground.

To do that, Kofi Kingston would watch from the sideline for a change. Woods & E defended the belts against Aiden English & Simon Gotch. The PhD became the face-in-peril in less time than it took New Day to do their opening promo, letting the 'Villains get manly en route to what they hoped would be their first title run on the main roster.

Struggling for tag, Woods connected with an enziguri, which brought in E. English came in at the same time, but he was no match for the former Intercontinental champ. A series of Belly-to-Belly suplexes made it look like the New Day would retain, but Aiden turned the tables when the titleholders went for a tandem move.

Xavier was now the legal man, and he found himself on the wrong side of the former NXT champ's finisher. But the Whirling Dervish only resulted in a very, very close nearfall. E was able to send English off the apron with a Spear, and while the referee was watching that Kofi Kingston got involved.

The damage done to Gotch, Woods was able to connect with a kick.

Despite a couple of moments where it looked like their lengthy run with the tag straps would end, The New Day are still your W-W-E World Tag Team champions.
