Update: Rhodes has explained why he wanted WWE to release him.
Just yesterday, Cody Rhodes revealed he asked WWE to be released. Today, the company granted him that release, as announced on the WWE.com website just a short time ago:
WWE has come to terms on the release of Cody Rhodes as of today, May 22, 2016. WWE wishes Cody the best in all his future endeavors.
It's still unclear exactly what led to Rhodes asking to be let go by the company he has been working with for the past decade, but he did say he hoped to provide some insight as early as later on this evening. This led to some rumors and speculation that his wife, WWE announcer Eden, would be following his lead but she refuted any reports stating as much while saying she's in New Jersey tonight to work the Extreme Rules pay-per-view.
Stay tuned for more.
