As regular readers of Eddie Mac's This Date in Pro Wrestling History feature, you undoubtedly already know that today would have been Andre the Giant's 70th birthday, were the legendary Frenchman still alive.
To mark the occassion, WWE is paying tribute to one of the biggest stars - literally and figuratively - in their history. They released the above video on his "Legend", which features several "did you know?" type trivia pieces... some of which are even true!
In addition to the YouTube piece, Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon also remembered her friend Andre on Instagram:
As with any figure they can lay claim to, WWE is marketing André Roussimoff twenty-three years after his death. But as long as it helps wrestling fans remember or learn about his contributions to this pastime we love, that's not a bad thing.
Now, if we could book the winner of his Memorial Battle Royal a little better - that would be a nice tribute.
