Not only did United States Champion Kalisto lose to Alberto Del Rio on last night's (May 16, 2016) episode of Monday Night Raw in Greensboro, North Carolina, the diminutive dynamo was also crushed by Rusev. In WWE kayfabe land, I mean that literally.
That's because the company is running an injury angle stemming from the show, leaving Kalisto off this week's episode of SmackDown, which tapes later tonight in Greenville, South Carolina (via WWE.com):
Due to injuries sustained at the hands of Rusev on Raw, United States Champion Kalisto is unable to compete on this week's SmackDown, WWE.com has learned.
WWE medical staff confirmed that Kalisto suffered a strained intercostal muscle and erectus spinae muscle, attributed to Rusev's Accolade submission maneuver.
It's noted, however, that he's still "planning on" wrestling at Extreme Rules this weekend, where Rusev will challenge him for his US title. That means the big baddie will have an added advantage while the underdog will have one more obstacle to overcome.
