Alex Riley, who once accompanied The Miz into the main event of a WrestleMania against John Cena for the WWE championship, was released by WWE last week. This was after he had already recorded his final match with the promotion, which aired earlier this evening on the WWE Network. It features Riley getting beat up by Shinsuke Nakamura on the latest episode of NXT TV.
It's a fitting end to a guy who tried with all his might to find a way into a meaningful storyline through whatever means necessary and never quite caught on, despite working in the developmental promotion. That he put over a bigger star on his way out is admirable enough.
