When Shane McMahon took control of tonight's (April 4, 2016) episode of Monday Night Raw in Dallas, Texas, he decided the way to find a new number one contender to the WWE world heavyweight championship was a Fatal 4-Way between the four guys who interrupted Roman Reigns' promo earlier in the evening demanding a shot at it. Originally, that group included Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, and Sami Zayn but they ran an injury angle for the latter and he was deemed unable to compete.
So he was replaced by a returning Cesaro.
Considering the players involved, you can imagine the match they put together. They teased a finish for each of the four, but ultimately it was the former king of TNA who both avenged his defeat to Jericho this weekend -- using the Styles Clash, no less -- and set up a future title match with Reigns.
Pro wrestling in 2016 continues to be weird but (mostly) wonderful.
