The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Payback show set to take place on Sun., May 1, 2016, at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. This is the first year the event will follow WrestleMania, as it switched spots with Extreme Rules.
We're now two weeks out from showtime and the top two matches on the card are official.
- Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles (WWE world heavyweight championship)
Styles became number one contender by winning a Fatal 4-Way match in the main event of Raw two weeks ago, then won another match against Sami Zayn to keep it a singles match. It was officially announced after that.
- The Miz vs. Cesaro (Intercontinental championship)
Zack Ryder was unable to regain the title he lost, and Shane McMahon put Cesaro in a match with Kevin Owens to determine the next top contender. Cesaro won that, so he gets his shot here.
Those are the matches that are currently official but there are others that WWE is building to, such as: Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn, Charlotte vs. Natalya, Becky Lynch vs. Emma, and The New Day vs. winners of the tag team tournament. The Wyatt Family vs. League of Nations may have also been planned before Bray Wyatt went down with an injury at a recent house show, though it's still unclear how severe said injury may be.
That's what it's looking like, Cagesiders. You watching?
