With WrestleMania 32 all set to invade AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas this coming Sun., April 3, 2016, live on pay-per-view (PPV) and the WWE Network, it's time to go about making predictions for the biggest show of the year. The match card is filled out and our staff of learned blowhards will give their best guess on who is going to emerge victorious this weekend.
But instead of doing this all in one post and giving you a wall of text and 3,000 words to read through, we'll give the top five matches their own post then cover the undercard.
Got it? Good. Up next:
Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch
(Divas championship)
Geno Mrosko: What's interesting here is as far as fully fleshed out characters go, Charlotte is clearly ahead of the other two. The story with Becky was outstanding but once they wanted to introduce Sasha they lost their way. Actually, they lost their way just as soon as they decided not to put the title on Lynch and didn't know how to close up the story they were telling. In some ways, it's still ongoing, it's just that Sasha is there now too. She hasn't been defeated on the main roster in a singles match, to my recollection, and it seems clear there is a belief she can be the standard bearer in a new women's division. Still, we may have been too harsh on Charlotte, considering she's developed into a strong character and some of the only truly great women's matches on the main roster over the past couple of months have been her work with Natalya. Having said all that, WWE is doing a WrestleMania Diary on Sasha Banks, and you have to think there's a reason for that.
Pick: Sasha Banks
Sean Rueter: After months of repping the Boss at the possible cost of my own job, my pick here will probably surprise you. But considering the way this story's been told, I really only see one logical outcome. Focusing on either Banks or Lynch as the challenger would have been a good way to establish a new women's star at Mania, but deciding to use them both here revealed that Creative didn't have a plan to split the spotlight, cancelling out what momentum one or the other could have had. Instead, the player who ended up looking the best is the reigning champ. Charlotte has been either the best or one of the best in each segment, plus, she's worked some high profile matches with Natalya that showcased her wrestling. I honestly can't remember what Sasha and Becky have been doing since this match was made. Use this as a way to further cement the Nature Girl, and reload both the other ladies for a more satisfying title win down the road.
Pick: Charlotte
Bill Hanstock: Here's an easy prediction: we're going to witness the greatest women's match at WrestleMania, ever. And although it won't have the same amount of emotion behind it, there's also a chance it could reach the lofty heights of Sasha vs. Bayley from Brooklyn. That being said, just thinking about this match makes me pretty emotional. It's going to be a pretty special moment for all three of these women and for the fans who have been following their careers. Say what you will about the Divas Revolution, but it has led us here to this: three of the Four Horsewomen, all by themselves in a triple threat match in front of close to 100,000 people for their division's championship at the biggest damn show of the year. It's pretty hard not to be blown away at what they've accomplished in less than a year's time. The only thing I'm sure about in this match is that Charlotte will NOT be leaving as champion. My heart desperately wants Sasha Banks to win this one, but it almost seems as though it would make more sense from a television and storyline standpoint to see Becky take it here. I really wouldn't be surprised if the Lass Kicker walks away with the belt. Still, I must go with my heart's desire here.
Pick: Sasha Banks
Cain A. Knight: I hope this story has been developing on Smackdown because as far as I can tell it has stalled out on Raw. Things were pretty heated when Sasha Banks came out at the Royal Rumble and whooped both Becky and Charlotte's ass in style, but now the story has lost quite a bit of momentum. That's unfortunate but at least this match is still happening and it has all the ingredients to be quite good. Charlotte has been tremendous in her role as a heel, Becky is super likable and easy to root for, and Sasha is somewhere in between where it feels like she could go in either direction in a blink. Those basic character traits combined with the fact that all three women are quality workers means that this triple threat match has a chance to pull off something that takes our breath away. As far as the winner goes, I feel like Charlotte's eventual loss of the championship should come when there is more personal hostility on display between the combatants. In other words, I think Charlotte needs to do something that causes personal devastation to one of Becky or Charlotte before it would be best to take the title off her. So my guess is that Charlotte pins Becky and escapes one more night as the champion.
Pick: Charlotte
Kyle Decker: This may very well be the match I am most excited for on the card. And my money is on a Sasha Banks win. She still has not lost a single's match on WWE TV and that wasn't by accident. They know how special she is and they are making sure to book her as such. Becky Lynch is an amazing babyface and a win here would feel amazing. However, she has had her big title feud around Royal Rumble this year so I don't see her winning it here. And that hurts me to say. I'm a huge Becky fan. If there's a dueling "Let's go Sasha/Let's go Becky" chant at Mania (and there damned well better be) I'll be chanting for the Lass Kicker. But Sasha is the one that's treated as super special. Because of that, I'll be surprised if she doesn't win here. I expect this match to be awesome.
Pick: Sasha Banks
That's what we think. How about you?
