WWE's Roadblock lasted for 2 hours 26 minutes and 33 seconds (2h 26m 33s).  Here is a breakdown of the timing for every single second of the show, in chronological order.

The matches are in bold. The "pre-match" segments include video packages, entrances, ring introductions, and any verbal promos that occur right before a match officially begins. The "post-match" segments include any celebrations, replays, angles, attacks, or promos that occur right after a match is finished.

Match Times

The 7 matches combined for a total time of 1h 22m 54s.  This means that 56.6% of the show was devoted to bell-to-bell action.

Here is the sorted list of match times for Roadblock:

  • 24m 43s: Triple H vs Dean Ambrose
  • 13m 34s: Charlotte vs Natalya
  • 12m 35s: Sami Zayn vs Stardust
  • 10m 17s: The Revival vs Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady
  • 9m 49s: New Day vs Sheamus and Wade Barrett
  • 7m 54s: Chris Jericho vs Jack Swagger
  • 4m 02s: Brock Lesnar vs Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper

There is some uncertainty regarding the match time for New Day versus Sheamus and Wade Barrett.  The two teams were not ready to begin the match when the referee signaled for the bell to begin.  So after the bell rang, the referee had to remove the championships from the New Day's clutches and keep the two teams separated until everyone was ready.

I counted this delay as part of the match time because I try to stick to the bell-to-bell time as often as possible when recording match times.  But it could be argued that the match time is actually 9m 27s due to the delay of 0m 22s that occurred after the initial bell rang.

Pre-match Segments

The pre-match segments combined for a total time of 45m 32s, which is 31.1% of the show.

Here is the sorted list of pre-match segment time for all 7 matches:

  • 8m 39s: Chris Jericho vs Jack Swagger
  • 8m 15s: Brock Lesnar vs Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper
  • 7m 52s: Triple H vs Dean Ambrose
  • 6m 33s: New Day vs Sheamus and Wade Barrett
  • 6m 27s: The Revival vs Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady
  • 5m 19s: Charlotte vs Natalya
  • 2m 27s: Sami Zayn vs Stardust

New Day's in-ring promo lasted for 3m 39s.

The pre-match segment for Chris Jericho's match included Raw and Smackdown recap videos that lasted 1m 10s, as well as the 4m 20s in-ring anus promo from Y2J.

A dedicated video package for The Revival's match lasted about 1m 36s.  Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady then spoke on the mic for about 2m 10s during their ring entrance.

There was a 1m 56s pre-taped segment between Natalya and the Flairs that aired prior to her match, which explained how the championship match came about.

A dedicated video package for Brock Lesnar's match lasted about 2m 02s, and then Bray Wyatt's in-ring promo lasted 1m 36s.  Paul Heyman's ring introduction for Brock lasted 0m 40s.

The video package hyping up Dean Ambrose's match lasted for 2m 06s. Triple H's entrance then went on for 2m 47s.

Post-match Segments

The post-match segments combined for a total time of 9m 40s, which is 6.6% of the show.

Here is the sorted list of the post-match segment time for all 7 matches:

  • 2m 36s: Triple H vs Dean Ambrose
  • 1m 32s: The Revival vs Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady
  • 1m 30s: New Day vs Sheamus and Wade Barrett
  • 1m 16s: Charlotte vs Natalya
  • 1m 11s: Brock Lesnar vs Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper
  • 0m 53s: Sami Zayn vs Stardust
  • 0m 42s: Chris Jericho vs Jack Swagger

Shortly after Chris Jericho's match was over, JBL obnoxiously chanted "You still got it!" for somewhere between 14 to 15 seconds.

Miscellaneous Segments

That leaves about 5.8% (8m 27s) of the show for everything else.

Most of these miscellaneous segments are crammed into the time after one post-match segment ends and the next pre-match segment begins.  Therefore Roadblock could have included 7 different blocks of miscellaneous segments.  Here is how long each block lasted, in chronological order:

  • Block 1: 2m 26s (Opening hype video; Cole welcomes you)
  • Block 2: 2m 17s (Backstage with Heyman; filler commentary)
  • Block 3: 1m 06s (Hype for WrestleMania 32; Cole talks about Toronto)
  • Block 4: 0m 00s (Nothing)
  • Block 5: 1m 50s (Hype for upcoming content on WWE Network; theme song plug)
  • Block 6: 0m 34s (Commercial for The Edge and Christian Show)
  • Block 7: 0m 14s (Cole talks about Toronto)

Block 4 is empty because WWE went straight from the post-match segment of The Revival's match into a pre-taped interview where Natalya tricked Charlotte into giving her a championship match.

I decided to classify this pre-taped interview as a pre-match segment for Natalya's match, because her match immediately followed it.  As a result, there were no miscellaneous segments crammed in between those two matches.

Summary

Here is a listing of how much total show time was allocated for each match when you add up all 3 components: pre-match time, match time, and post-match time:

  • 35m 11s: Triple H vs Dean Ambrose (24.0% of total show time)
  • 20m 09s: Charlotte vs Natalya (13.7%)
  • 18m 16s: The Revival vs Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady (12.5%)
  • 17m 52s: New Day vs Sheamus and Wade Barrett (12.2%)
  • 17m 15s: Chris Jericho vs Jack Swagger (11.8%)
  • 15m 55s: Sami Zayn vs Stardust (10.9%)
  • 13m 28s: Brock Lesnar vs Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper (9.2%)

Now here is a look at the "Match Time Percentage" for each match.  For any given match, this percentage shows how the match time compares to the combined pre-match and post-match segment time.

(Here's an example calculation: an entry with a match time of 6m 00s, pre-match time of 3m 00s, and a post-match time of 1m 00s has a score of 60.0%, because the match time of 6m 00s is 60% of the total sum of 10m 00s for all three components.)

  • 79.1%: Sami Zayn vs Stardust
  • 70.3%: Triple H vs Dean Ambrose
  • 67.3%: Charlotte vs Natalya
  • 56.3%: The Revival vs Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady
  • 54.9%: New Day vs Sheamus and Wade Barrett
  • 45.8%: Chris Jericho vs Jack Swagger
  • 30.0%: Brock Lesnar vs Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper

I have collected timing data on 39 WWE Pay-Per-View (PPV) events over the last 3+ years, and the timing component percentages for those shows collectively are: 22.6% pre-match segment time, 54.2% match time, 9.9% post-match segment time, and 13.4% miscellaneous segment time.

I am not going to merge the data for Roadblock into that data set because this show was more like a hybrid of a special event with a house show rather than a full-blown 3-hour PPV.

The most obvious difference for the timing data of Roadblock is that the show only lasted 2h 26m 33s.   That rarely happens with WWE's PPV events; the shortest total show time I have in my data set is 2h 43m 06s.

Digging down into the separate timing components shows that Roadblock contained a lot less miscellaneous segment time compared to the typical PPV.  All 39 PPVs in my data set included at least 11m 00s of miscellaneous segments.  The median and average miscellaneous segment times are each north of 20m 00s.

In fact a 0m 09s plug for Snickers was one of the very few plugs for a non-WWE product throughout the entire show, and that occurred during a pre-match entrance (Charlotte's) rather than a miscellaneous segment.

So for Roadblock to only feature 5.8% and 8m 27s of miscellaneous segments, a good chunk of which came from the show's opening, is a significant departure from the norm.

Roadblock also featured several lengthy pre-match segments that were extended with in-ring promos and dedicated video packages.  Sami Zayn's match is really the only match that did not receive any kind of in-ring promo or pre-taped video package to hype it up.

The median pre-match segment time in my data set of 276 matches is 4m 52s, and Zayn's match is the only one from Roadblock that fell beneath that median mark.

None of the 39 PPVs in my data set ever surpassed 30.0% for the overall pre-match segment time of the show, and this also separates Roadblock from the typical WWE PPV event.

Final Results for Roadblock

Match - 56.6% - 1h 22m 54s

Pre-match - 31.1% - 45m 32s

Post-match - 6.6% - 9m 40s

Miscellaneous - 5.8% - 8m 27s
