Believe it or not, WWE stayed the course.
It's been clear for years now that Vince McMahon is of the belief that Roman Reigns is his next top guy. He's been treated as such for a long while now, sure, but he's never really a top guy until he stands triumphant as the new WWE world heavyweight champion in the main event of a WrestleMania.
It didn't happen last year, when a late change of heart led to Seth Rollins cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase to win a triple threat that also included Brock Lesnar. Reigns ate the pin and they simply held off for another year.
Well, it's here.
He's been booed time and again, fans cheered when Triple H dumped him from the Royal Rumble and then eliminated his best friend, Dean Ambrose, to win his title, and every story seemed to point to that friend as the real underdog in all this. But it matters not.
It's actually happening.
Roman Reigns will challenge Triple H for the WWE world heavyweight championship in the main event of WrestleMania 32 on Sun., April 3, 2016, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. There are six episodes of Monday Night Raw until that night, which gives the company that much time to figure out how to get Reigns cheered as the conquering hero.
Or decide to finally turn him heel and let him get nuclear heat matched only by Eva Marie.
Stay tuned.
