The Match up:
WWE Universal Champion, Kevin Owens, defends the championship against WWE United States Champion, Roman Reigns, this Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. Can the Big Dog put an end to the Kevin Owens show? Or will the Prizefighter knock the Roman Empire back to the midcard?
The Road to Roadblock: End of the Line
Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho have been the best of friends since this summer. The two bonded over their dislike for fan favorites Enzo and Big Cass. The duo is quite funny together, as evidenced by the video below:
What is also apparent in the video is that Chris Jericho seems to outshine the Universal Champion with The List.
Enter Roman Reigns, who has a tendency to troll WWE Superstars and manipulate situations to get what he wants. You see, KO has used Jericho to retain the championship in each of his title defenses. Reigns is aware of this. He is also aware that KO cannot stand his claims that he is The Guy, even as a supposed lesser champion, and that KO will do pretty much anything to prove to Reigns that RAW is the KO Show.
Troll Reigns Troll.
So the friendship of Jeri-KO is dissolving before our very eyes. KO did, in fact, lose to Reigns later that night, which set up this match at Roadblock. Go back and watch Jericho in that segment after KO tells him to shut up. He seems legitimately hurt by a friend. KO has attempted to make it up to Jericho in recent weeks but Y2J is just not having it. The last image on the KO Show this past Monday was Jericho watching Reigns spear KO and hold both the US and Universal championships.
Reigns is merely a supporting character here. The real story is between the two best friends and WWE has not hidden this fact at all. Will Jericho even be able to be a factor in their match since he has to face Seth Rollins, who he has screwed out of the title three times, earlier in the night?
The Stakes:
The Universal Championship is on the line. The friendship of Y2J and KO hangs in the balance. Reigns will be a double champion if he defeats KO. Although most people do not seem to be pumped for this match, there are a few stakes loaded into this story, which should provide an interesting start to the Road to WrestleMania.
