It seemed a curious decision when Dolph Ziggler revealed he was issuing an open challenge to anyone on the Monday Night Raw roster for his Intercontinental championship at Survivor Series on Nov. 20, 2016, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Ultimately, Sami Zayn won the right to answer that challenge.
During this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, it was revealed why it went down that way:
General Manager Daniel Bryan notes that a deal was cut with Raw GM Mick Foley where if they defended the Intercontinental title against someone from Raw, the Cruiserweight championship would be defended against a member of the SmackDown Live roster. Kalisto was given the nod, and it was also revealed if he wins the entire cruiserweight division will move to Tuesday nights.
The Miz and his wife were worried Ziggler might lose the title to Zayn and therefore he would miss out on ever getting his rematch. Bryan then offered it to him on next week’s special 900th episode. They accepted, so it’s on.
