WWE announced today that Tom Phillips, who has been working as a backstage interviewer and the play-by-play commentator for NXT, will join the SmackDown Live announce team.
SmackDown LIVE has a new addition to its announce team: Tom Phillips. The announcer joins play-by-play commentators Mauro Ranallo and David Otunga, and color commentator JBL, giving Team Blue a four-man booth every Tuesday night at 8/7 C on USA Network.
This isn’t Phillips’ first time at the desk for the blue brand, as he worked as the lead announcer alongside Jerry Lawler and Byron Saxton before WWE shuffled its line-up and replaced him with Rich Brennan. The brand split earlier this year led to more changes, with Michael Cole, Corey Graves, and Saxton handling announcing duties on Monday Night Raw while Ranallo, JBL, and Otunga handle SmackDown Live.
Phillips had been doing NXT, Main Event, and Superstars, and that’s not expected to change going forward.
