James Ellsworth, a human noodle who does not possess a chin, showed up in WWE some time ago, paid very little money just for the chance to get beat up and pinned in short order by Braun Strowman. He cut a memorable promo beforehand — “any man with two hands has a fighting chance” — and messed around and got himself over. He did just enough the company brought him back to work SmackDown Live, where he even got a title shot against WWE World Champion AJ Styles.
How would to explain this man?
In an interview with Ringside Collectibles, SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan takes a shot at it:
"It's hard to say. I think because it's unexpected. One of the things about James Ellsworth is he really caught on... he just did one match with Braun Strowman and people were like 'oh, James Ellsworth, he's the man!' I think there's just something about him. He has a unique charisma, he has a unique look and people just like him. He's also a very sympathetic character. He's an underdog. People really want to root for the underdog. ... Yes, he's very, very relateable."
