Earlier today, reports started making the rounds that WWE would be headed to Houston, Texas for a four-night series of events at the Toyota Center centered around Survivor Series. Now, ESPN is reporting the company has plans to do that with each of the “Big Four” events every year, starting with WrestleMania 33 next year in Orlando.
Those events: Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series.
The plan is to run an NXT TakeOver on Saturday, the main pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sunday, Raw on Monday and SmackDown on Tuesday, all in the same venue. The Observer notes this is approach is so WWE can create competition through more interest in bidding cities due to the economic impact such a four-night swing would bring to the area.
This approach works for WrestleMania each year, and has for some time, but when it also worked for SummerSlam in Brooklyn the company made the move to expand it to the “Big Four” shows. It will also make it easier to sell tickets via packages that include each show, making it more of a travel destination.
It’s just a lot of wrestling.
