Reports started making the rounds yesterday that SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch is injured and will not be wrestling at tonight’s (Oct. 9, 2016) WWE No Mercy pay-per-view (PPV) in Sacramento, California. Details were sparse at the time, and, well, they still are.
Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio:
"She has an undisclosed health issue that is not serious. You know what that means in English, right? In English it means everyone will tell me that she's not going to be at the show but no one will tell me what it is. ... She may be on show in the Randy Orton role, which would really be kind of weird for them to do the exact same angle two shows in a row. ... I don't know how they're going to handle it. ... I believe Alexa Bliss will probably wrestle someone else."
He’s sure to note that anything is possible, including stripping her of the title and putting it up for grabs in whatever the replacement match for Bliss will be. Naomi is the only babyface available to wrestle in Becky’s place, so it’s possible she’ll step in for a straight singles match.
It’s worth noting that Lynch missed the SmackDown house show last night in Portland. WWE is still promoting her for tonight’s show, however, which is what they did with Orton before running an injury angle to write him out of his match with Bray Wyatt at Backlash last month.
Stay tuned.
