It took about four years but Nikki Bella’s off screen relationship with John Cena has finally become a storyline on WWE television. That’s almost certainly because the company wants to promote Total Bellas/Divas but much of it is rooted in reality. That’s to say, Carmella bringing up that Nikki only is where she is because she’s dating Cena is a common criticism levied at the former Divas champion.
Her response to all that talk, from her interview with Digital Spy:
"No, it makes my career so much harder, because no matter how hard I work I'm always going to have people take away everything I do because of John. I won't get certain things because people will be like, 'Oh, people are gonna think she has this because of John' so let's just not give it to me. I have to work so much harder being with a successful man to just prove myself. I could be at some event wanting to do business with people and they automatically go to John and not me because I'm with someone like that. It makes me laugh because people think it's easy and I get everything because of him when it's the exact opposite."
It’s not completely unfair to think it at least possible that Nikki has, perhaps, been granted more opportunity at least in part due to her association with the biggest WWE star of the past 10 years. Having said that, it’s impossible to know either which way and even if that’s the case, it shouldn’t take away from what she has accomplished in her career.
She is her own star, and her successes are hers.
Right?
