John Cena probably has as many fans as he has admirers. People love him and hate him for a variety of reasons. However, you cannot deny the fact that he is highly popular. The fact that you cannot really apply betting odds in a conventional way to WWE hasn't affected professional wrestling's rising popularity.
People love the WWE, and they love the superstars it produces. And there is no bigger WWE superstar today than John Cena. Cena has defined professional wrestling for an entire generation.
However, it looks like the superstar might have begun his journey to finally becoming a heel. Most of Cena's critics do not outright hate him. Rather, they simply think the story would be better served if he turned heel.
Fans have been clamoring for this development for years and it looks like they might be on the verge of getting their wish. There are rumors coming out of the WWE which suggest that plans might finally be in place to make John Cena a heel.
Naturally, such a step would be purposed towards boosting WWE's ratings, and turning Cena heel would definitely attract interest to both Raw and Smackdown.
Cena hasn't played anything close to a heel since 2003, and that was when he had just been introduced to the WWE. He boasted a Vanilla Ice like personality at the time, often incorporating freestyle raps into his matches. At the time, Cena was pitted against superstars like Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker, all of them babyfaces.
By the time the year ended, however, Cena was a face and he hasn't looked back since. His journey to true success begun when he won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21 in 2005; soon after, he became the unbridled face of the WWE.
The 39-year-old is still very polarizing amongst fans; there are as many people that cheer him on during matches as those who boo him. There are a variety of reasons why the powers that be have resisted turning Cena heel.
The fact that he does so much charity work outside the WWE might have something to do with it. However, maybe those shackles won't keep Cena tied down much longer. It makes too much sense to make him a Heel.
Anthony DiMoro of Forbes suggested that the WWE creative team might use Cena's turn to boost ratings. This probably isn't the first time the idea of turning Cena heel has come up.
However, they are definitely serious this time round; and Cena wouldn't be the first popular babyface to go heel. Hulk Hogan underwent a similar change in the 1990s. Vince McMahon is one obstacle that has consistently blocked the idea of making Cena a heel and for reasons that make little sense.
Everyone knows that Cena turning heel would break the internet. Cena, himself, has suggested that he isn't averse to turning heel and that he could very well pursue that option before his career ends.
Parents and kids still love John Cena. It is difficult to determine what would happen to make Vince push Cena into the heel arena. The WWE universe would be changed irrevocably.
