These photos of Undertaker on crutches have everyone freaking out

Undertaker hasn’t been seen in a WWE ring since WrestleMania 32 in Texas, where he defeated Shane McMahon in a Hell in a Cell match most of us only remember for the weird, ultimately meaningless story they slapped around it and Shane O’Mac’s dive from the top of the cage through the announce table.

If you go by rumors and third-hand reports, the other notable thing about Taker’s match in AT&T Stadium on April 3, 2016 is that the Dead Man was supposedly telling people after it that he was hanging up his boots. The Phenom allegedly planned to call it a career following his last win at a pay-per-view (PPV) event with which he was always be synonymous.

A couple pictures making the rounds over the last 24 hours lend credence to those reports, however.

There’s been no news concerning specific injuries, or surgery to repair them, but Taker’s been seen out and about in his native Austin - and he’s using crutches to get around.

Here’s one in a Starbucks (where apparently everyone has some sort of lower body injury):

And another in a parking lot:

In 2009, Taker underwent hip surgery following his Mania 25 classic with Shawn Michaels, and somehow has managed to continue working on a reduced schedule for the past seven years - all while dealing with shoulder issues and a concussion suffered in his historic loss to Brock Lesnar on the Grandest Stage of Them All in New Orleans.

It seems like every year we go through this cycle - pictures circulate of Mark Calaway looking every day of his 50+ age, we as wrestling fans on the internet collectively react negatively, some training pictures show up about a month later and we get excited about those, he shows up to work WrestleMania then disappears for a half-a-year until the cycle starts over again.

Is this the year his body prohibits him from answering Vince McMahon’s call to work one match on the biggest show in the business?

We’ll find out - probably if the workout Vines don’t start showing up around Royal Rumble time.
