Kalisto and Alberto Del Rio have been playing hot potato with the United States championship over the past couple weeks, with Kalisto winning it in a shocker on Monday Night Raw before Del Rio took it back in a predictable play on SmackDown.
The two hooked up for the rubber match at tonight's (Jan. 24, 2016) at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV).
The two, who have great chemistry and are good more often than not, put together another fine match that saw Del Rio work as a strong heel and Kalisto operate as the babyface underdog. Del Rio spent much of the match trying to get Kalisto's mask off and commentators putting over how dastardly such an act is where these two come from.
They put together a great false finish late when Kalisto moved to avoid the double foot stomp in the corner before coming up from behind to hit Salida Del Sol. It only got a two count because Del Rio found the bottom rope.
It wasn't long after the actual finish came, with Kalisto sending Del Rio into an exposed turnbuckle -- one ADR himself had exposed -- and hitting Salida Del Sol just after to get the pin.
And NEW US champion.
