Stardust vs. The Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) rumoured for WWE SummerSlam 2015

HollywoodLife.com is claiming that the lead star of Arrow, Stephen Amell, will wrestle Stardust (aka Cody Rhodes) at WWE SummerSlam 2015 after speaking to an exclusive source.

As my colleague Sean Rueter reported on Thursday, the angle where Stardust confronted the lead star of Arrow, Stephen Amell, on Monday Night Raw this week looked to be the opening gambit in a lengthy program between the two. Rueter speculated that SummerSlam would be the natural place to blow-off the feud, given that it's WWE's biggest pay-per-view event left in the calendar year.

Well, now, HollywoodLife.com is claiming that Amell will likely wrestle Stardust at SummerSlam, after speaking to an exclusive source, who told them that:

"Steven is looking to get in the ring for the WWE and the match looks like it will take place at SummerSlam in NYC."

The question that's yet to be decided is whether Amell will wrestle as himself or as his onscreen alter ego of The Green Arrow:

"The WWE and Stephen are deciding if he should wrestle as himself or Arrow, in the next few weeks that will be answered but what can be answered now is that he will definitely have a match against WWE Superstar Stardust."

Although WWE hasn't officially announced Amell as appearing at SummerSlam yet, they often leak stories that they want out publicly to the mainstream press in order to generate a media buzz and heighten anticipation for their future plans, so although this is still just a rumour, clearly in this case the old adage that "there's no smoke without fire" rings true.

The big winner here is obviously Cody Rhodes, whose career has lacked direction ever since his feud with his brother Goldust was prematurely dropped after their first match together at WWE Fastlane in February generated a disappointing crowd response and it was concluded that the storyline simply wasn't working. Although he would likely lose to The Green Arrow, as the comic book villain usually does, this grudge will up his profile and hopefully he can use the publicity to springboard to greater success afterwards.
